Another Exospeed Scam
I sent my D series block to them back in march. I have paid in full for a stage 4 build. I was able to contact Wil once on June 30th. He told me my block would be finished the week following the 4th of July. I have since been calling and emailing every day with no results. I am unable to contact exospeed at all. I have family in Southern California so it looks like I will be making a trip to visit Exospeed very soon to get my block finished or not. This is unexcusable. Exospeed will soon be in serious trouble if they do not start showing some customer service.

What are you talking about? Why would he pay after the work was done? I mean the company building the block would get screwed if the customer decided to just not pick the block up. The customer would be out like 50 bucks for the block, but the company would be out a lot more. Maybe I am missing something here?
You don't go to taco bell, order food, eat it, and then pay... lol. You have to pay first if you want something done, wether it's getting a block built, ordering food, buying movies, etc...

Would you pay a mechanic before he did any work? Of course not.
I can see paying for parts but I have never been to a machine shop that charged labor up front.

Yeah I get what you mean, but this is kinda like "buying" a block, rather than just paying for some labor. I mean just the parts are probably like $1500 in this case, probably more.

i agree with BBKA in the case of a mechanic. The customer would be leaving their car...chances are the car is worth more than they are going to owe.. i think half up front seems reasonable.
It is alot of money that the company would have to fork out to order the parts, but I also haven't ever gotten machine work done and had to pay before it was done. Who knows. In general I don't pay for anything until it's done if I can.

The machine shop I use doesn't charge anything up front, they just tell you how much it's going to cost, but then you don't pay until you pick it up.
But I think the Exospeed deal is a little bit different because they are building a block for you, not just surfacing your flywheel or something. I'm sure they needed the money up front to purchase the parts needed to build the block, I would expect to pay up front in a situation like that.
However, the thing that sucks about paying up front is, after the shop has the money they are less motivated to finish up your work and get it back to you. It puts the ball in their court which means delays and slacking.
Either way, I hope you get your block back...
D-series with the stage 4 build? How much power are you looking to put down in the end? Which turbo are you using?

Good point.I know when we sleeved a couple of blocks for a few customers we just asked for $300-$400 up front and the rest when the block is done..thats the way it should be,never all up front.if a shop can't afford to buy the parts for a build
with out have the customers cash up front they probly don't have the money to be in bussines in the frist place.

I flew to California last weekend and tracked down Wil from exospeed. He refunded the full amount I paid. I was going to take my block back, but I talked to Wil and he promised to get it out to me in a week. We will see. He used family problems as an excuse for why he had not contacted me or completed my build.
I will keep everyone posted on my results.
By the way, the engine/trans specs are(or will be):
D16A6 Block
Z6 Head w/ crower SS valves and Titanium keepers
Sleeved block
Arias 9:1 pistons
Eagle rods
skunk intake
BBK throttle body
Turbonetics T3/T04 turbo
SS 2.5" exhaust
Quaiffe LSD
Driveshaft shop stage II axles
I am shooting for 300+ WHP
Should be one fast single cam

I have 2 buddies that took advantage of that "Special" that they had back in March. One of them has paid in full and has been waiting for probably 3 months now. The other has sent like half of the money. They said that they had 5 H22 to build. And 5 H22's take 3 months? If anyone else has been screwed by them post it up and everyone should fly down and bend them over. See how they like it
