Default Aluminized steel Q.

Hello, i was interested in ordering some aluminized steel mandrel bends from JCwhitney, and was wondering how hard this stuff is to cut and weld? the name kind of threw me off, but im assuming it is a weak type of steel.

any help will be appreciated.

AFAIK, it is just mild steel with an aluminum coating - when you weld it the aluminum just burns off.

Yup...mild steel with an aluminum coating. It's much easier to weld if you sand off the aluminized coating prior to welding.

definately wanna grind it off, cause when you weld it...the puddle looks funny, it stinks, it smokes alot, makes you feel funny if you breath it in, etc. i just finished TIG'ing up some test fit IC pipes for my car that are aluminized mild steel and i didnt grind it off

definetly want to find steel pipes without the coating because it is much lighter. Just paint it.
