Almost escaped TOTAL DISASTER..
i was on my way back from a 2.5 hr trip, when about 2 miles away from my house I stopped in a parking lot and noticed smoke coming out of my hood.. I was like, "what the heck:???".. So i went out to investigate..
Turned out my stainless oil feed line had split at the fitting going into the turbo and oil had sprayed all over my engine bay and engine.. I was so lucky because though it had split, the line didn't completely fall off.. If it had fallen off the fitting, I would have been stuck on the hwy miles away from home and my motor gone.. So i drove home cautiously for the last 2 miles and haven't driven the car since sunday.. hopefully tommorrow, I'll be getting a new line fabricated at a shop and get it installed so i can get my car up and running again.. after all this, I'm thinking I should have kept my hard line setup instead..
I strongly believe it failed because of the intense heat cycles the line had been exposed to since it was so close to the manifold and turbo, though it diddn't touch it.. And after closer inspection, I noticed the inner rubber lining had cracked on both sides and traveled about 1/2" down..
Has anyone here ever have this happen to them? I"m just thankful I caught it b4 the line fell off and I lost all oil..

Maybe he did, but is in denial.... Shhhh, he will realize it eventually
Nice job though. I know what it feels like to pop your hood and find 3 3/4 quarts of 10w-30 now happily resting on your intake manifold, TB, intake piping, firewall...Oh, sorry, bad flashbacks...

consider your self lucky could have been a lot worse
you shouldn't just use stainless steel braided RUBBER hose. get the Teflon core, it's not as flexible, but is MUCH MUCH MUCH more durable and is cheaper. I'm not sure on the exact specs, but I think it's good for 2500psi and 800ºF or so (for an AN-4 size line) this could be wrong, but what I recall. find an aeroquip dealer (under hose and fittings in yellow pages), they should have it.
