aiResearch to4b for a b16?
ve come across a garrett aiResearch to4b with part number 409300-0026. the exhaust housing reads A/R 1.32 and the intake is 0.60. have really no idea of the trim or anything.
how would you compare this turbo to a garrett t3/t04e 57 trim 0.63 a/r?? and how would this turbo behave on a built 8.5 compression b16 motor?
also if anyone could help me with the flow characteristics of this aiResearch to4b at 1 bar? and how would u identify what kind of compressor wheel the turbines got (S, V, or H)
all inputs would be highly appreciated.. thanksss

If you have any pics, they would be appreciated. This sounds like one of the old AirResearch Diesel applications that were made for strictly large displacement torque. Peak power was never its intention. I doubt seriously if this could be used on your Honda.

Changing the housings aren't going to do any good in this particular case. Its the compressor and exhaust wheels that are not properly matched for this application.

thanks for the input mate. i guess the t3/t04e 57 trim with 0.63 ar would be the perfect match for a b16. could u tell me of any reliable source of getting one online and at a bargain price?
any particualar identifications to look for in a t3/t04e?? the a/r is punched but how would you know what trim the turbo is?
also 0.63A/r is for the intake side. wat usually runs for the exhaust in a t3/t04e 57 trim 0.63ar??

It depends on what trim the t04b is. The s-trim flows ~37lbs/min, a tad more than a super60 t3 - good for ~350whp max. If it is the s-trim, I would get parts to make it a t3/t04b, but wouldn't spend over $500 on it all. BTW You would *have* to use a t3 exhaust, as the straight t04b is way to big.
On my stock d16z6 I have a t3/t04b s-trim w/stage 1 .48ar exhaust (a bit smaller than .48 due to the milling), along with a volvo internal WG w/slightly enlarged outlet, full 3" dp/exuast. I initially thought it would be too big before I built the motor, but I get 10psi at ~4k, starts spooling just before 3k. 3500rpm of usuable powerband is very nice. For compairison a 57trim t3/t04e flows ~45lb/min, spool was ~5000rpm on the last b16 I worked on (pos setup though). I would really suggest a 60trim T3 or a 50trim t3/t04e, probably a .48ar with stage3 exhaust (good medium for flow and spool).
.63ar is the typical t3 exhaust size, next to .48ar. Newer hybrids have the larger stage3 exhaust wheel, older ones have a stage1. I've seen a few t3/t04b's with stage2 exhausts though. Larger AR's & stage wheels allow for better flow but more lag.

The major diameter of the compressor wheel between the 50,57, and 60 "trims" are all the same. It is the measurement of the distance squaredbetween the inducer and exducer measurements. The only way to tell exactly what it is, is to trust your seller, and measure the diameters when you receive the turbo with the cover off. Let me know if you need any assistance getting a turbo. Simply saying that the 57 trim is best for the b16 only depends upon what you're trying to get out of the car and what purpose. Some people would disagree with the 57trim, and even litre size isn't the best determinant.

Re: aiResearch to4b for a b16? (TheShodan)
was out of city, hence the late reply... i will definately want help in choosing and buying a turbo for my project and also fuel injectors, am looking at precision 680s to be the best buy. for fuel management ill be running crome pro or hondata (depends on how much dough am left with)
my setup:
stuff already bought:
B16A2 (out of a 99 Si - OBD2, which would be converted to OBD-1)
Wiseco Piston kit (8.5:1 compression)
Eagle H beam connection rods
ARP head studs
Golden eagle block guard
Front mount intercooler
HKS SSQV
Innovate Wideband kit LM-1
Warlboro 255lph fuel pump
Oil cooler
fludyne radiator
ACT stage 3 clutch and pressure
suff remaining:
Turbo (t3/to4e 57 trim 0.63 a/r) or any other which u may suggest
turbo manifold - will fabricate one
fuel injectors - precision 680s - need input on how the precision injectors are?
i plan not to go above 1 bar of boost and the car will see boost every weekend at the drag strip. aiming at pushing out somewhere between the 300-350 whp range.
p.s
PM me ure email address

so is the turbo a good match??? the car isnt a daily driver. 680 cc's would do with this turbo at 15-18 psi right??? are the precision injectors flow matched?? any good?
tell me a gooood place to buy the turbo and the injectors from??
