air/fuel ratio readings under boost
well, my question now is, what is the air fuel guage supposed to read while undergoing boost? its a narrowband autometer boost guage. while idling, it shows one spec of red and the rest is orange. while boosting, goes to the upper part of the orange(stoich). is this normal? lately ive been informed that the guage must read a little on the rich side while in boost. all i am running for management is a 12:1 fmu and a walbro 255l fuel pump. i was wondering why the car is frequently jerking. I know it cant be a boost leak because the boost guage reads up to 8psi(wastegate spring setting). maybe this is my problem. if it is, how can i fix it? i cant afford hondata or anything like that right now, so please tell me something affordable. thanks

It can read pretty much anything since its a narrowband, usally they read rich.. You need to get a wideband to do any tuning with it..

what its really telling you is that your gonna need to get a wideband if you want to read anything.

The autometer af gauge is nothing more than a 0-1vdc volt gauge. If the car is on the rich side on boost, it should be very near 1volt, or all the way to the green leds. But like everyone says..don't even think of using that gauge as anything but a light show.
The only good use it has (that I use it for) is knowing whether the ECU is in open or closed loop.

Oh boy... that's like asking which oil to use. You can probably find one aroudn $250 - $300+ depending on what you need.
I got my Zeitronix for aroudn $270 shipped I think, but you'll need a laptop to monitor it as that price doesn't include gauge, but on the bright side, it includes datalogging - which is more important to me than the gauge.

Hmmm...I also have the AEM and I think it is a piece of ****.
I would go with a PLX...but that is just my $.02

Any special reason you dont like the AEM unit?

Alot cheaper than the sensor for my TE 1.5. Sure glad I purchased mine before the L1H1 sensor more than tripled in price. I don't think you can even find L1H1 sensors anymore. But damn, it works great.

Yeah, It's harder to read than the PLX and the f'ing sensor keeps going out...also the data loging is not as capable and the PLX M-500.

I do datalogging with the AEM EMS so I dont know about the widebands datalogging..
How long does your sensor last, where is it placed in the exhaust pipe, are you running leaded fuel?

I have the sensor about 16" from the exhaust side of the turbo in the DP and I run unleaded 92...I did run the Sunoco unleaded 100 octane once. I wish I had an EMS to datalog with

Hmm.. Strange why the sensor keeps going out on you, I have never heard of one of them going up before..

Yeah, I just pulled it out today and cleaned it again...to no avail.
