AEM fried itself!!!
All of my sensors were reading 5.0 volts and they shouldn't do this unless you are at WOT maxed out. Yea, I was having an issue with pin c7 and noticed when a paperclip was put in the pin and grounded to the box it would work properly. So, knowing this I soldered a wire to the c7 wire and then grounded it to the box as a band-aid until I could send it back to AEM. While I was at AMS in Chicago last weekend on the dyno the readings for the AEM wideband were off for some reason. Then without warning the car dies. Try to start again and no luck. Then I cycle it and do not hear the fuel pump kick in. The fuel pump was getting continuity but the wire for the fuel pump to the AEM was not. It ended up grounding itself out. Now I am sending my AEM back to the company Monday, but I was wondering if anyone else had issues with their EMS frying itself? Just want some input, thanks.

Re: AEM fried itself!!! (Mase)
Yea, I would have loved it to be user error, but it was plugged in and running great with the charge pipe detached and was at first with it bosoted then I tried to start it up a week after the last time I drove it and it wouldnt start. The lap top showed the throttle was at 100% and the car was under 35.12% load. Then we looked at the sensors and the map, coolant, tps, and the other two sensors were at 5 volts. c7 is the line that is for the MAP and Vtec solenoid, the ground that is. 30-1010

My PW1 fried itself so I hit 2 BAR as my solenoid was never activated... I had 2 coil drivers go bad as well last year. They have horrible quality control, its ridiculous, I'm calling them on Monday to discuss how they are going to help me with this situation.

They seem to be very good about taking care of their customers, I am sure they will fix your problems.

Im not being an ***, i just cant believe A: it worked at all and B: you didnt just get it fixed while it was messed up instead of grounding pins with paperclips. well good luck let us know haw it turns out....

There must be a reason why you rarely ever here about these type of problems with other ecu's. I had coils go out on my AEM on numeroes ocassions, leaving my car down. I can't begin to count how many times I spent $25.00 on shipping the damn thing back to Jaime, JP, and whoever else I can think of. Take this advise and go with something that has been proven and works like I did (check sig.)!

Re: AEM fried itself!!! (turbo Si)
No no no you misnderstand dude. I realized that it started to work when apaperclip was pushed into the plug and grounded to the box, not that I used it. a wire was soldered into the harness and screwed into the box, that's all. I know it wasn't the best thing to do but I had to take it to the dyno. It was on it's way out and I knew it, I just wanted a temporary fix. Besides, it was a shop that actually did this, not me. As for the DFI what is the cost on that bitch?

Re: AEM fried itself!!! (Boosted Ego)
I'm not telling you to go with the DFI. Just go with something reliable. I bought the AEM when it first came out and if you do a search on it you will see. If you wanna go with something that plugs right in, then I would look toward Hondata, or what ever your tuner recommends. But AEM's track record speaks for itself, .

Re: AEM fried itself!!! (turbo Si)
some of the early boxes had problems with the daughter boards. i havent run into any problems with the new boxes. they are very good about getting these things fixed. out of all the cars i have tuned only one has had issues with randomly frying itself. all the others have worked flawlessly.

Re: (Boosted Ego)
My box is getting sent to AEM now due to possible hardware issues with it
We'll see how it gets handled... as of now my car has a blown engine and is in another state, with the most likely culprit being a hardware failure in my EMS.

Thanks man... I think someone on HT summed it up best, all companies have problems but it's how they deal with their problems that determines whether they are a good or bad company. I'll keep you all posted on the outcome of my situation. I am not going to talk bad about AEM until we resolve this issue in one form or another. I have been a staunch supporter of theirs in the past, hopefully I will not have to switch camps

Re: (Boosted Ego)
I havent had one problem with my AEM. I hope you decide to stay with their system cause it is an excellent system for the money. People dont understand that it is advertised as plug and play only cause it simply plugs in to the factory harness...........it is in no way an amateur's system and can compete with the best out there. People are just scared to try cause they are on the hondata dick tip. I wouldnt ditch it for anything.
By the way. How does a paperclip find its way into the C7 plug? I would think that may have dome some harm. Make sure all your grounds are at a good location--that may have been a problem from the get go.

Re: (HybridcivicLS-T)
All of the factory grounds were good and the ground wiring were all getting proper continutiy per AMS (Chicago). It is an internal ground that fried. As for the paperclip I have stated twice now it was uused to check if the wiring was not grounded internally, which it was not so the c7 wire had a wire soldered to it and connected to a screw on the box. I DID NOT DO THIS BTW.
