Default AEM EMS install question

First of all, don't tell me to do a search, because searching for **** on honda-tech never works to my advantage.

I'm considering putting in the AEM EMS instead of my hondata now, and I was wondering if its similiar to Hondata, where you have to solder a chip into it? I'm not an idiot. I just never really read into something that I didn't plan on ever buying. But, now I'm considering it. Does it replace the factory ECU?

no soldering involved. You plug into your stock harness. Load your base map make adjustments and wallla full standalone that never needs to burn a chip

You take out your stock ecu, and put the AEM EMS in. As simple as that. The stock harness plugs in to the AEM unit and a serial cable goes out from the unit to your computer for tuning purpose.

And how much do these usually go for? I'm asking because if I call the shop and tell them to put an AEM in, I'm wondering how much they'll most likely probably charge me.

they should only charge you for tuning.

edit- Viren (b18bturbo) has some kick a$$ deals on the aem right now. Lowest I have ever seen.

If you run injectors that are peak and hold you need to run a resistor box..

They shouldn't charge you a dime...it's plug and play as long as you buy the correct plug and play unit

Remember its a plug and play, and not plug and run..

No, I don't work there. I'm just having a **** load of stuff done by them right now, and am very satisfied with their work usually. They worked on my car last year too, and did an excellent job.

I just can't believe its taken 2 weeks now, and still no cable from Hondata to plug into the labtop.

Just use a 9pin RS232 cable that you can get at Fryes or best buy. Hondata said they had the cables in stock and see if your dealer ordered it.

I just called them today, and they said that they ordered a new chip and emulator from Hondata, and should take 3 days to get here.

They didn't have any non-vtec AEM EMS's in stock, so I couldn't get one right away.

Really? Like I said, I'm not too familiar with the AEM EMS, but, that's what the shop guy told me on the phone, and thought it kinda made sense. But that's weird though. I would think he would have known that. Well, anyways, they insist on fixing my hondata somehow, so we'll see what happens.
