Advice on Purchasing a Garrett T3/T04e 50 Trim Turbo
I looked around in the regulations for posting, and I think this is an acceptable question to post!. . . .
Anyway, I need a little advice, to help me decide whether I should buy a turbo like this, and if so, new or remanufactured, and from who?
It looks like somewhere around $600 shipped is a good price from the vendors on here for a new 50 trim with a .63 turbine housing and a stage 3 turbine wheel. Is that accurate?
Also, I gather that reman'ed ones can be had for less, but I can't get a good fix on just how much less they tend to be, and whether they are less, or more likely to be reliable. . . Any thoughts?
Are there any favorite places to get good products and service at a good price for either of these options?
Thanks!

I got my 57 trim for $575, so yeah it's pretty accurate.
Remanned you could probably find for high 400s or so. Nothing wrong with a remanned turbo, they're just harder to come by.
The places where I bought most of my turbo stuff is in my sig.

Do you tend to get any meaningful warranty with the genuine ones? (either new or reman'd?)

Be careful of some remanufactured turbos. I bought one from a seller on eBay "down2turbo", who sells tons of remanufactured turbos on there.
It was a genuine garrett turbo etc. and cost me about $400 I think (It was about three years ago).
Within 6 months of running 10psi daily the turbo started spewing oil into my charge pipes and down into my intercooler... so I had to rebuild it, which was expensive.
I figure an SSautochrome turbo would have lasted at least as long as my garrett and would have been about half the cost. lol
Anyways, I guess it's sort of a crap shoot. It just sucked to spend the cash for a genuine turbo and have it crap out on me like that. I've heard of other people who had the same experience...
And yes, I was running an oil restrictor

Thanks! ! !
Are there significant numbers of bad luck with brand new Garretts too, or is that pretty rare?
