advice on hooking up my catch can
hey guys,
i've been running my catch can on my 07 turbo si for about 5k miles now. i just took it out tonight and there wasn't a drop of oil in it.
i have a hose running from the vc to the can, and a hose from the pcv valve to the can. i also have the can full of scotchbrite pads, so it should be catching stuff.
someone told me i need to drill out my pcv valve since it closes under boost and is effectively doing nothing to help drain into my cc. is this true? i'm a little hesistant to drill out a valve. i have minimal knowledge on what it does, but i'm hesititant to drill out something engineered to this car.
thanks

Re: advice on hooking up my catch can
it will close under boost... it only will open under vacuume thats why its hooked up to the intake manifold... to suck out the gases in the crankcase... so you need to hook that back up... is the catch can vented??? or is it a sealed catch can???

needs to be vented... here is a thread on the idea of a vented valve cover lots of good stuff..

here is a page of go autoworks of what a vented oil catch looks like... you can do it however you want but gives a good idea of what one looks like...

wow, this is bad news, you have effectively created a non venting system. **** like this is what blows seals. crankcase pressure has no where to go. if you do a sealed system it HAS to pull suction from your airfilter tube. if you don't do this you have to run a vented system. as it sits now crankcase pressure has no where to go

guess I won't be going back to that shop.. luckily I haven't been boosting lately (got a new kit, so it's NA at the moment). should I drill out the pcv then?
