adding a inline 044

I will soon be adding an inline bosch pump with my intank 255 and was wondering if it matters where i put it? Like will it be better closer to the rail or closer to the tank or does it even matter???

from what i have seen in alot of cars they mount them in the engine bay, or on the firewall just all depends if you are using stock fuel feed lines, or aftermarket.
