95 DelSol Si Project [2Mbps recommended]
Its been many years since I have thought to post here.
I will do it erratically.
The car is a 1995 Civic DelSol Si. It came originally with a D16Z6 engine.
I acquired the car for $400. It came without engine, trans, axles, ECU and passenger side speaker cover. The rest was there.
I have since replaced the radiator support, pushed the rear end out, and built a solid engine for the car (D16Z6).
Engine Specs:
D16Z6 block/crank
P28 pistons/rods (.006 P2W)
D16Y5 head (decked .020, valves cut)
D16Y5 Intake Manifold (R&D on EGR under boost is under way)
Turbo Specs:
TD04H-13C (Had built-in divert-er valve)
SP Log Manifold
38MM External Wastegate
A/C Compatible Downpipe
Gangsta budget charge pipes (CAC piping)
DSM 450CC Injectors
Walboro 255Lph fuel pump
BOV from a Volvo 740
eCtune tuned by myself
Future plans:
Reconfigure/R&D D16Y5 EGR setup to be a boost controller, or a BOV.
Triple core radiator
Intercooler (hidden mounted)
Energy Suspension Bushing Kit (Full)
Larger turbo (probably holset)
Supercharger (need to source a JRSC again, I sold the one from my last twincharged car)
Possibly a JDM spec B18C1 (I have acquired already, just need to rebuild and refurbish the parts)
more tba.
Here are pics from my earlier threads on another site.
Before the work started
All I need to get the job... thank you harbor freight!
After 25 or so minutes of work. The Bumper hanger is not worth trying to re-use.
Tools for success before...
And after..
Front end 15 min after rear finished... Notice the fender was fixed as not seen in a few photos. I will be amazed if the headlight fits like a glove... in fact... Im going to pound everything closer when I get the headlight.
I taped the old light on to keep water out.
What it looks like inside after hammering and pushing it out. The targa holder now doesn't hit the trunk release when I close it... but does take a bit of pressure to get it to click down.... The trunk I bent out as far as I can... but I believe a replacement deck lid will fit like a glove. If need be I will use a sort of tape to seal the sides of the trunk so I can drive it.
I need to re-seal this seam.
Air hammer+English wheel=better garnishment in the rear!
What a drastic improvement!!!!!
And a little MS-Paint later...
After lining up the 2 holes on the right and pushing the garnish in a little, I noticed that the holes on the left didn't quite line up This was to be expected.
Closer view of the top stud on the garnish not quite but almost where it needs to be...
The bottom stud is way off... about 2/3 the diameter of the stud, so I need to do some serious metal shaping.
This is the garnish stud on the passenger side that had the breakaway nut.... I believe when the garnish is in... it will be a very short distance to hammer... I will shape this with the garnish on to get it lined up best.... and see where I can move the metal to push it out.

Re: 95 DelSol Si
So I took the head off... and what would you know... there was a chunk of the piston sitting up on top...
the head... looks like it didnt even get hit by the piston, you can only tell in one tiny spot, which can be easily be filed down. The head is in primo condition... this i didn't expect. Worst case is it needs 2 or 4 valves... no biggie
The cylinder: This block is toast. I dont want to destroy hones to try and fix the bottom. Just recycle it and call it a day.
The crankshaft: still has the rod end on it... which means, I have a good Z6 crank! These things are almost worth their weight in gold for tuners... double oiling ports
Now back to the piston... It looks like the wristpin sheared the skirt right off the piston... literally... I immediately shut my motor down when it happened... so not too much damage could be a result of it running when broken. After looking at it all me and the shop owner Lee (my boss) determined it had to have happened like that... the piston just sheared at the wrist pin..... look closely at the pic... its sheared not bent and mangled.
Check the fabulous stealth self restricting oil feed line:

Re: 95 DelSol Si
Long time since an update.
The car has treated me well; But those damned paper head gaskets don't hold up to high boost.
The Y5 headswap seen in the last photo, and in the video I posted in another thread made a huge difference when I put the turbo back on. https://honda-tech.com/forums/forced-induction-16/one-minute-headswap-my-sol-2993777/
Presently; I have finally finished gathering up enough parts to build my GSR engine. Several heads, blocks, transmissions, brackets, bolts and manifolds later... here it is.
Not many pictures of the engine assembly process as Id rather spend time getting it done, but shows where its going.

Re: 95 DelSol Si
since my main threads are on other sites; this feels like it could be a "flashback" thread
Plus H-T peeps like pictures like RHMT guys like ****.
Gonna hit the dealer tomorrow for a price on all the parts i need; very short list.
Its going to be nice to have a base HP on an engine that's the boosted HP on my SOHC.
And yes; boost is in its future. High CP and boost do mix well. Having access to 100LL AvGas at the local airstrip makes fuel not excessively expensive and a closer solution to e85 which lower per-tank mileage to boot. Ill do a street tune on as low of an octane as possible, and do my higher boost levels on leaded AvGas and other such fuels.

Re: 95 DelSol Si
Official Parts List:
95 GSR block
97 GSR crankshaft
JDM P72-00 Pistons+Rods
P72 Head; Ported exhaust; Dual valvesprings
?97? GSR cams (pics above, cam markings dont match the CAM ID photos available out there)
ARP headstuds
All new gaskets (100%)
95 GSR transmission
95 GSR exhaust manifold
95 GSR intake manifold
DelSol DOHC shift linkage (new dealer part)
GSR axles/halfshaft
GSR Distributor
Total spent so far: Too little to mention. Basically gaskets, bearings, fluids and a few dealer parts that didn't come with all the individual parts I acquired over the past few years. Most was trade-ups or taking parts from customers in trade for tunes on their car.
Need to fill the torn trans mount I have with silicone (got a free tube) before I can install.... Other than that its ready to run like a rape victim.

Re: 95 DelSol Si
Here it comes.... More pictures.. Wonder how many I can fit on page one
Finally after too many delays. Flywheel came in.
Bolted all together.
Modified an sohc starter.
Complete assembly ready to go. Already pulled the plugs and primed the oil system.
Just need to get off my *** and wake up early one dry day to install it
After priming it; found one oil leak at the VTEC solenoid; which is the only re-used gasket on the motor; gonna grab one tomorrow. Might even drop it in tomorrow.
