9:1 comp loses low end
my b18c turbo has low comp pistons and when I launch at 3500-4000 rpm it bogs down like it is being over killed with fuel..and it seems to lost low end but when i reach 5k it starts to move.. any tips or suggestions would be appreciated

Re: 9:1 comp loses low end (opiumdaze)
Your turbo probally doesn't spool until 5000rpm. Also, unless you have something to build boost at the line, you are really not spooling the turbo by putting a light load on it (aka revving the engine).

i have the same problem with my b16 with stock compression (10,2:1) i think it has something to do with the turbo itself (because the turbo is a resistance in the exhaust system until it began to spool) and the second thing i think is because of the tuning... i have the same problem with a perfect a/f ratio but under 3krpm the car feels like i hit a brick wall, after 3krpm it is fast as hell...
when my clutch is fixed then i will experiment with the timing and the fuel and see if it gets better... but maybe someone has allready experience with this phenomen.

Define spool ... its always a restirction btw, and its also always "spooling" unless you switch the car off.
The car should pull just fine even with 9:1 should not be the end of the world.

I'm willing to bet that both of you guys have your cars over fueled just before the turbo comes in, than once it spools up it pulls like crazy..
Am I right?
You need to be running pritty lean just before you start to spool (14's afr) that way your matched up once the turbo spools up and feels like a factory turbo car.
If you have problems launching at that low of rpm's its time for some tires, traction bars, LSD.

Hallo,
i have a afr from about 15-14,2:1 before boost kicks in. so i think it is not extreamly to lean and not extremly too rich. so i think maybe it has something to do with the ignition timing, maybe i need a bit more advance in this area... but i will recheck that when i clutch is fixed.
with spool i mean that the turbo spools so fast that he is able to build boost.
i think a turbo that not builds boost is definitive a blocking device instead of a clean NA exhaust system or am i wrong?
what is with the back pressure from the exhaust system? i have a exhaust system with nearly no back pressure, maybe thats the reason for the bad NA response of the engine?!

Re: (mrx)
exhaust restriction has nothing to do with it....
imo you need to do 2 things
learn to drive
get it tuned
i have driven/tuned many setups, some just dont like to run below a certian rpm.. take off at a higher rpm while slipping the clutch, if that dosnt work get some better tires.

Re: (JDogg)
If you dropped the compression, you need to add a bunch of timing down there to make up for it or it's going to feel like a dog. Who did your tuning / what are you running ecu wise? chipped?
