Could he just have a local machine shop expand the 81?

Golden eagle bores the oem 81mm gaskets to 83mm so I dont see why not.

Why bring attitude? A simple 'yes' would have sufficed, yet people always spend more time being a smart *** than just answering the question. You drive a Chrysler Crossfire, you MUST BE a tool.

It is a valid question, mine was slightly rhetorical. I guess I could have said 'couldn't' rather than 'could'. Why wouldn't theshodan tell him to bore out an 81 rather than wait the 3 weeks?

My initial answer to this was based upon the inference that waiting for three weeks for another gasket included the fact that the gasket would be made by a company that was experienced in taking OEM gaskets and boring them to his specific size, and not that just ANY machine shop take your run of the mill OEM gasket to perform the same act, as a matter of safety and consistency.

I'm not implying that it can't be done, and if the shop he goes to is experienced in doing so, godspeed. But if the machine shop isn't familiar with MLS or OEM gaskets and any special processes that are needed (I don't know which), you may be buying yourself into trouble because that shop may not know the nuances it takes to keep that gasket reliable as it creates it.

So, in essence, I'm saying, wait for the correct company to give the correct gasket. - Buy 2 so if it happens again, you're good to go

thats one of my 5 cars thanks for playing...

he's in new zealand. its going to be awfully hard for him to find someone local to bore a head gasket.... He's pretty much stuck with having one made, which will take some time

And my response wasnt to you but the op... my phone has started putting a ^ before every this for some weird reason
