81.5mm headgaskets?...
whats up whats up
my set up:
darton sleeved 81.5mm gsr block
built type r head
cp 9:1
450whp at 17lbs
hp goals: 550 daily driven and 600+race gas 25psi max
what options for headgaskets are there... i am currently using a cometic .027 mls headgasket but i feel like its failing... i'm spitting coolant into my res tank under load and i just wanted to get a feel for what is good out there or if i could even use an OEM gasket for 81.5 bore...
yes i am going to change my rad cap and thermo and do a leak down test before i come to a conclusion of the headgasket... i just want to get a feel for what options i have for headgaskets and what you guys have experienced with such brand names...

Re: 81.5mm headgaskets?...
lots of people swear by the oem headgaskets. ill be going that route when my engine is redone again.
Im running cometic 81.5 with no issues so far. My car overheated once and it had coolant going into the overflow. But i turned the heat all the way up and then the car ran fine afterwards. Which lead me to believe it was a bubble in the system rather than a faulty headgasket.

it's not just going into the overfow... it is spraying under load
and how are you going to use an OEM 81mm headgasket when your bore is 81.5?

A stock 81mm gasket will work fine for a 81.5mm bore. The stock gasket is good for 81mm to 81.5mm, making it perfect for 81.5mm. I used one on my 81.5mm LS build and it held perfectly even under high boost.

You can use a oem head gasket! i use them all the time, 81.5mm is fine any more than you must get a custom hg.

Re: 81.5mm headgaskets?...
looks like it turned out to be the headgasket... after i broke the thermostat out and changed my cap with a high pressure cap, its still spitting and i guess it finally mixed enough to show oil at the top of my radiator... goin to acura and pickin one up today. so sad.
