Default 8:1 CR too low?

For a daily driven car? I was over at Endyne looking at their rollerwaves for B16A in stock bore... and it states that the CRX is between 7.98-8.32:1... I am thinking that's a bit low... I was aiming for atleast 8.5:1 and at most 9:1.

thanks,
-Shing

That is a bit low. I would shoot for somewhere around 9:1. even 9.5:1 is fine.

No $hit that's too low. That's the CR on my WRX (8.0:1) and that's why it has so much boost stock (14psi). I set it to 7 psi (spring) once it is was DOG slow, and that's a 2L. I can only imagine a 1.6L at 7 psi on 8:1 Compression. It's nice though, because you (or rather I) can run HIGH boost without knock.

Well the plan for me is to never really be below 1 bar...

I guess I'll just have to keep looking.

Boosting 25 psi on 4:1 compression isn't going to be all that fast. similarly, boosting 1 bar on 8:1 isnt going to be all that fast, if at all faster then boosting 10 psi on 9.5:1 compresion. it's all about HP not boost. if you're building your motor with rods and pistons you would be able to run 15 psi with 9.5:1 compression with no problem. Just as long as you have the fuel.

How many stock engine 90-94DSMs do you see running 11s? A lot of them. At least I do. Know what their stock comp ratio is? 7.8:1. The 2g (95-99)? 8.5:1.... 8.0:1 will work great. You will need to keep the boost up to have any fun, IE over 10psi, but it will be easier to tune with less knock and the less the comp ratio, the less the tendency to knock.

8.0:1 is fine.

Those engines are also made to run on low compression. You're 8:1 b16 will be a dog off boost. I'm sick or arguing with people on here.

anything below 8 on a honda is *** .... guanranteed. Its just not worth it. Run at least 9.0 to 9.5 but anything lower is just going to take a tremendous amount of time to spool plus it just plain slow if you are running near stock boost levels say 5-9psi.

I myself run flattop JE piston 10:1 with no problems boosting 30psi + with nos on a standalone. ITs all about having your car with good smooth torque curve and high hp curve on the top end..
