10.5:1 ok for low boost?
Ok, I've searched and havent found exactly what i need. I need to bore/hone my b16 block to 81.5 mm and I am pretty set taht I want to run CP pistons. In the motor right now, I have wiseco 9:1's and I really dont like the low end on the street, so i want to run a higher comp. ratio, but all I can find off the shelf is 9:1 or 10.5:1, and since I am planning on keeping boost below 10 lbs. would the higher comp. ratio be ok assuming it is properly tuned? Also I am concerned about the sleeves if they are going to be bored/ honed.
Thanks for any advice,
Craig

Go for it. You will have a better powerband than someone running lower CR and more boost (as your turbo will spool more quickly). Just make sure that your tuner is decent ( I reccomend becoming your own tuner) and you should be fine.

High(er) c/r with low bost is alot of fun. I am running 6.5psi on my stock itr and its a blast plenty of lowend and spool time is very fast, even with the .60/.63 turbo i am running - full boost at 4400. try it out i am sure you'll love it.

I was in this situation before either 9:1 or 10:4:1 i chose the 9:1 because with the higher compression you have to pull to much timing and have to run high octane gas. if i were you stick with the lower compression and run more boost.

that's when i hit full boost as well and i'm running an ls with 8.8:1 pistons. same turbo as well.

Not being a ***** would consist of running high compression and high boost... not taking the easy way out.
There is always more power (area under the curve) to be made with high compression. When I build my next motor, i'm going for 10:1.

Would it be better to get the 10.5:1 pistons and run a thicker head gasket to lowerit a bit? I can run 94 octane regularly so that should help.
Thanks for the replys so far.

No........... there's no point to that, the issue with the headgaskets and high CR isnt the gas you use, its the pressure created..... so run c16, its not going to matter, my advice, if you want to make some power, keep the 9:1 pistons and run some higher boost..... you can live with a little lag, and with the right setup you can lose a lot of the lag, same goes with a nice turbo.... if thats still not quick enough, stick a nitrous jet right after your compressor housing, that turbo will spool REAL fast
