Just got off the phone with comp cams and decided the cam will be the last purchase of this build. They are going to do a custom grind on a new core and they’re gonna build it based on valvetrain, compression, turbo, boost and vehicle weight aka literally the last thing I’m gonna do so the putting the cam aside and focusing on finishing this block up!

you have way more of those specs than I do at the moment so I’d call them. I asked relative price jump from the 59300 to a custom grind and he said like a 30-50$ jump is all it really is. I just called the 800 number on the website... give them a call man!

Just a casual stroll through our local junkyard and look what we stumbled upon! We found our transmission... at least our starting transmission haha.

Just a pretty little d16z6 with the tranny and linkage still intact! For $80, why not? Ripping it out on Sunday. Will definitely have pics of that project!! Hahaha

Nice find! I kick myself to this day for not grabbing the transmission that was still on my engine when I pulled it from the bone yard. I'm still using my DX transmission.
I guess the POSITIVE aspect to this is that I now know what a stock DX 5 speed transmission CAN hold in terms of power. Lol!

Hahaha at least you have a tranny! Hopefully this baby is tight and good to go. Stock z6 si tranny okay with the power I’m looking at? Adding an LSD of course. But for how cheap it is, if it blows, it blows.

If you're shooting for 500, I'd probably opt for a rebuild on the trans at least. Maybe a limited slip diff too. **shrug** I'm not the strongest versed in these transmissions. Lol

already planned on LSD and having a tranny shop check it out... just more concerned about gearing and such.

The Z6 trans is great. I would suggest adding an LSD, use a single disc clutch, and bucking up for a set of 2.9s as well. Save yourself the "repair it" headache by just doing it all from the start.

thank you good sir, checking out clutchs on your site right now... also looking at 2.9s but only for the b series? or is there some hidden store you're not telling me about since I couldn't find the cp pistons or Manley rods either haha

lol, I just need to get an assistant in to update all the things that aren't on the online site that get sold all the time. The 2.9s are available for the D series as well and work well paired w/ a stg 5 clutch. Many will say just use stock axles...which you can; but they are about as strong as a stock D series rod. Put a set of 2.9s in and be done with it...or keep stockers and replace them every few weeks (if you plan on launching the car)

Needs front fenders/bumper... brakes... front crossmember... windshield and a bunch of small miscellaneous things I’m sure.

he has the doors, has suspension on it, fuel tank, I believe he said he has the hood.

should get real interesting.

IMO this is a great starting point. Car is already stripped down so you can do everything right, and the way YOU want to do it.

Good choice and congrats on the pick up

thanks man! And yeah I’m not worried about interior, I’ll pick up two lightweight racing seats, a wheel, i believe he has dash and cluster. Not doing anything else on the interior... so he did all the work for me haha

It won't be that bad, I see tons of old CRX's on craigslist all the time that are basically junked, shells, non-running etc. that have at least some decent body panels or parts. Just keep your eyes peeled.

The bigger problem is you gotta find em local since most people won't bother to ship.

I'm gonna be honest with you.. In a junkyard junkie. A fanatic. It's my home away from home. I have not seen a CRX in ANY junkyard I've visited in the last 10 years. You'll have better luck with online stuff; EBAY, rockauto, carparts dot com, etc. It probably won't be cheap either.

thats what I’m worried about however I found a guy in Pittsburgh who has almost everything I need for a 91 crx minus the body harness. The body wiring is going to be he hard one to find I feel like but he has hood, fenders, dash, cluster, both bumpers, headlight, taillight... SCORE!

Nice find!

Yeah I think that people rarely junk them, they just hang onto em forever which is why theys eventually end up parted out on CL.

Some may call us crazy/stupid/ridiculous... I call it dedication to race car.

This is our round trip. Leaving Saturday at 330/4am when we close at work, leaving straight for Michigan to pick up the shell..

And then driving directly outer Pittsburgh to grab all the parts for the CRX that guy has.. and then back to buffalo to throw it all in my garage, against my wife's will.

Wish us both luck on our journey, and wish ME extra luck that I don't get divorced after all this

Good luck with the wife. Just toss your wallet at her feet like a grenade when you get home, it'll distract her at least for a bit, she may forget your misdeed in the confusion.
As for the trip, drive safe! I'm looking forward to seeing this project through!
