Default 7 Headbolts stripped!!!!!!!!!

We were just about to put the head on when the guy building the engine found I have at least headbolts stripped. I dont want to throw timeserts in it. I was wondering if anyone has a writeup on how to Helicoil the motor? At this point I am between a rock and a hard place. The only option I have is a local guy with a complete running B16 block. My motor setup was going to be a GSR block,B16 Head, LS rods and Crank. Are any parts from the GSR block reusable towards the B16 block?

helicoils dont work for that timeserts or get a new block. Did you use b16 head bolts/studs on that block?

why don't you want to use time-serts? I just used them on my block and they work great.

You could always have 1/2 head studs installed.. Some machine work is required but that's always a solution. Helicoil will most likely fail. Timeserts are the way to go for head bolts.

I have a Honda time sert kit and it works great used it on my motor and others never had a problem. 2 years ago I had a machine shop install a helicoil on my block and when I when to torque the head the block cracked machine shop drilled to far

Heli coils will work for it. ive done it to several blocks. Just has to be tapped deep enough to get two heli coils in place for a good bite. Im currently running my gsr block with a heli coil and only one installed and it holds just fine.

drill with proper spec drill bit recomended by the heli coil. tap down far enough. the tap will go down into the block so you have to get creative with a tool. i personally used a thinwall socket that the tap fit snugly into but they make things for this. insert both heli coils break tabs and your good to go

Yea Turbo LS i am going to helicoil it tomorrow. But i have two questions for you first, are the inserts for the GSR long inserts or short inserts? Second, are the threads countersunk or no?

The machinists i talked to asked if something was countersunk. Im assuming he meant the threads but im not sure. Oh and another thing.... would have to buy a helicoil kit or does the machine shop provide that? He is charging me 35 dollars a hole

Is he putting extra-long helicoils in? As mentioned above, the standard length helicoils will NOT work. They place too much of the load in a tiny portion of the block, which pulls the threads.

Youtube has great instructional videos on timeserts. Honestly, its your best bet. They specifically have a head bolt kit. It has a plate that sits on top of your block to ensure that you are drilling perfectly into the hole..

What's golden eagle going to do? If you're going to do that just send your block to ERL and have them install 1/2 head studs. Whats getting your block back right? That's more than you were originally gonna spend.

Go to the dealer list on the time-sert website. I found a place that was close enough to drive to.

Ok, everyone keeps saying buy the timeserts myself and do it. But I am trying to figure out which kit is it that I need? Golden Eagle will install the timeserts and get the threads right. If someone would politely give me the part number of the TimeSert kit I need I would gladly do the install myself.

I found one at this website:http://www.tekmaterial.com/cgi-bin/c...&key=006-77111

If those are the inserts you guys are talking about it is still cheaper to let Golden Eagle do the work. If someone knows where I can get them for a better price I am opne to suggestions Thanks.

TEK is where I got mine from. I was able to go there because it's close enough and bring my bolt with me to match it up. The kit can be expensive, that's why I recommend sending it to a local machine shop who uses time-serts for thread repair because they will have what you need there and you won't have to buy a kit. And the machine shop will use a drill press that will be a lot more accurate than a hand tool. $280 sounds pretty high. Check if you can get a better deal local. I don't know the part number for the kit if you want to buy it, but the people at TEK are really nice and i think they can look it up from make and model.
