600hp build questions
I plan on building a 500-600 hp b16, I was wondering if oem bearing are better or aftermarket. Ive herd of people useing both and just wondering which is better. Also i dont understand why they say if you use after market rods, oem bearings or the color code dosent work anymore
I tried this before and everybody started fighting with each other, needless to say I didn't get an answer. I would say you could use either one but it appears most people go with OEM... On my build The machine shop said no on oem due to the damage on the crank.
On the color codes, its always a better idea to go ahead and measure it yourself just to be sure on what to buy

Why do they say the color code dosent work once you get aftermarket rods. How should i blueprint the block if i use aftermarket rods if i cant use the honda color code

You can use plastigauge with your old OEM bearing for determinate the size of your new bearing.
For my turbo build, I have take the size of my rod and crankshaft journal with micrometer, bought OEM bearing and check with plastigauge. For have a very accurate clearance I have re-buy some bearing at higher or lower color.
Check that :
