60 trim on a sohc?
Setup is as follows
D16z6
75.5 vitara
TT rods
stock head
59300 cam
tubular manifold
2.5" charge pipes
I have at3/t04e .48 AR 60 trim on there and is this too much turbo for this motor? Is it worth downgrading to a 57trim? The 60 trim looks like it wont work on paper but has anyone here ever ran one on a sohc with good results? Looking for ~350whp with a .63 ar exhaust housing

Re: 60 trim on a sohc? (CRXdan)
Hey Dan,
Sounds like you've got a real well thought out project there. Looks like a good candidate for a 400hp Vitara build. We did about the same build on our project 400Hp Vitara CRX, and when we approched Garrett to spec a turbo for us, they responded with the 57Trim. Because of that, I chose to go with the 57Trim, not the 60.
So I have a couple of thoughts for you....
- If you have the cash to get the 57Trim, I'd get it.
- If you don't have the cash, or can't make a trade, try the 60.
The nice thing about trying the 60, is that all three versions of this turbo are interchangeable in their standard form. If the 60 doesn't do it for you completely, you can run it until you get the cash, and the 57 will bolt right in place of the 60.
Good luck!
When she runs, post pics and dyno slips please?
Craig

Re: 60 trim on a sohc? (TunerToys)
The 57 trim looks so much better on paper, whereas the 60 trim is almost always near the surge limit. I think I might run the 60 trim for now as its on the car and seems to pull hard with it, and if I decide to change it out I will post before and after dyno graphs of the two turbos. Thanks fior the advice!

Re: (riceburnerryan)
yeah i would stick with the 60trim
lag is fun
how is it anyways? i was thinking of going with one kinda simulare but i have a tdo5h for now but garret is a nice company and i have a turbo from them on my probe, 60 and 48exhaust
but i want to do a super 60 one and my goal is also 350whp on my d16

Re: (riceburnerryan)
T3 super 60 is tottally different than t3/t04e 60 trim
and if youre 50 trim is a t3/t04e then it will be great on a d series with a .48AR housing on a stock block.
So far from what I can tell is that the t3/t04e 60 trim loves higher rpms or more boost, or both. BUt it doesnt have much lag and doesnt surge. I get full boost by 4500rpms with a 48 ar housing and 2.25" exhaust.

you "get" or think you could get? Because I remember recently a post of a b16 owner not getting full boost until 5500rpm on a 60trim.........and people saying that was pretty normal.
Why in God's name were you running a 2.25" exhaust? lol.

Re: (chimmike)
i know a smaller exhaust .48 makes these turbos spool up a lot quicker on my probe i had a .60 .63 but the lag was nuts once i got a .60 .48 on the exhuast side that turbo spooled like nuts, i think around 3500-4000 i was at full boost, thats on a 2.2 though

Re: (chimmike)
And I am running a 2.25" HKS Sport exhaust because I havent had time to upgrade the exhaust yet, this is my daily driver. Just got the motor in and broken in, and the 60 trim has just been installed. a 3" exhaust will defenetley help spool times.
and yes it does spool very quickly with thte .48 ar housing. the turbo is already on the car. pics to follow shortly.

Re: (CRXdan)
Just got back from the track, ran a 13.5@105mph on street tires, this is with 2.25 exhaust and 8-9 psi. Not bad considering I was using my old tune form my boosted minime with severely retarded timing. Car should have alot more in her with more boost and bigger exhaust.

Re: (CRXdan)
thats awesome i just scored a free turbo kit from my friend for giving him parts to do his sap in his civic, and doing it for him.
ill be running a t04e turbo also no i/c yet and stock d16a6 or w/e the non vetec is
how fast do you think it might run since were basically running same setup.
and how streetable are those cams your running?

Re: (i-want-a-crx)
no idea sounds like a poorly sorted setup though
and I run A cam, not cams, so assume your friends civic is a dual cam, in which case itll run 9s

Re: 60 trim on a sohc? (CRXdan)
no i meant cam sorry for adding the S
i didnt add my full setup ill be running around7or so psi for now, im not sure if i want to swap a b series motor in it or not.
i obviously will have more than just that
and it is a turbo kit so ill have mostly everything other than im switching a few things around
only going to keep my lightly boosted d series for a while until i get a 240 for my dd
