Default 400whp SOHC

Our project SOHC is back on the dyno after a 5 month nap! Actually I have been too dam busy to mess with it. With the race season over I figured the Holidays were the best time to finish the project. Just to recap what the setup is:

1.6L SOHC
Hondata
Factory sleeve!
8.5:1 compression
Eagle Rods
Ferrea Valves/springs/retainers....OEM cam
Golden eagle intake and 70mm Throttle body
AR Race IC (36"X12"X3")
Precision turbo....50trim! yup a 50 trim!

I started tuning on Sat morn . So far the car only was tuned to 20psi. It made a rough 320whp when I started. I continued to clean it up and raised the bosst level to 25psi. This is where trouble struck. I tried to remedy this by tighting the plug gap but that didnt clear it up 100%. So we added the MSD to it and that fixed it. I continued to clean the map up on the Hondata until 360whp was achieved and it had 346fttq at 25psi. I started back up this morning again with one goal 400whp or a cracked sleeve. 30 psi yeilded 395whp and 370fttq and it pulled clean out to 8500. At 30psi the timing was 21'. The choice now , more boost(50trim is good to 32) or add some timing so we can hit 400whp on a 50trim! The decision is to remove the non sleeved short block in favor for the same setup but with our new sleeved block. So it looks like 395whp is all thats gonna be seen from this car until we get moved into the new shop! Dyno graphs soon to be posted...

Check out our thread in the S2000 forum....505whp!
Also James' Non-Vtec Prelude with 373whp/410fttq on a 50trim will be posted..

Very nice. That is a hell of a lot of boost on stock d series sleeves. What size injectors are you running?

Very impreesive! Like someone else said how big of injectors, and around what RPM does it start boosting? What manifold, and did you happen to scan the dyno charts?I'll be looking for someone to dyno tune my built d16z6 on factory sleeves with hondata come spring. Congradulations, awesome numbers!

Nice job howard..... Now just use a bigger turbo and 400+ will be easily acheavable ...

This block does have a block guard welded in also guys. But is still using stock sleeves.

As far as injectors...80#'s.

The turbo hits full boost at 4800.

The intake is Golden Eagle.

The goal was 400whp on the 50 trim and thats it.

As for Steves Prelude....AEM found the problem in the box and is gonna be fixed and returned sometime this or next week. Im sure it will be able to be tuned to 600-700whp when it returns.

Once the 400whp goal is hit our next project will be a MazdaSpeed. But this wont happen until we are fully moved into the new shop. As far as turbo's Brian The sc61 has a capabilty of over 600whp when tuned properly. You may want to figure out at what boost level you want to hit 450whp+ first before you pick a turbo. I was looking at your 343whp graph with your turbo, there should be no reason why you cant get another 100whp with 25-28 psi(60-1 efficency). That turbo lagged another 1500rpm more than my 50trim. Also the tq was alot lower(due to the spooling time and probably the timing too). Yes the sc61 will spool alot quicker and it wont give out after 26psi like the 60-1 wheel. But it is a very big turbo for the 1.6L. And anything more than 400whp on the street is stupid in a FWD. Im on the AWD kick now.....too bad Honda doesnt make a nice AWD chassis....

Yeah i have kinda givin up on the SC61 idea. I am just going to take this 60 trim and push it as hard as i can. I figure on 25-30psi i should be able to hit over 400whp easily.Especially with all of the other stuff i have bought for this thing.
I just want to see 450hp and be able to run 11's on a BFG.

Those are good #'s on the 50 trim though. That is what gives me hope about my 60 trim

if u use a different block use some real compression. if u had 9:1:1 u would be hitting 400 whp even if u went with 9:3:1 thats still a safe compression umber. up the comp not the boost. and a good cam would hit the 400whp easy.

lets see some graphs.

pretty damn wicked for the 50 trim on a sohc, good job where's the graph? so do you think the sc61 is to big to spool reasonably for a 1.6?

It would be making over 400 with 9.5:1 compression...why start so low if you're looking for big power? Forged internals are forged internals, considering the fact that you've got a buttload of time to tune it.
