Default 400 hp?

I've been thinking about this for a long, long time. I want 400 hp. 300 doesn't seem to be enough. and 400 sounds a lot cooler too. I have a b18b1, all stock.

What am i gonna need to achieve 400 hp?

Do I need a gsr head?
Do i need sleeves?
Will a 38mm tial be enough?
What size turbo do i need?
Will 400 hp be ok on pump gas?

All i can figure internally is I'm going to need pistons/rods/bearings/head studs/rod bolts... does that sound about right?

generally, people usually stay under 300hp on a stock block to keep it safe, but it all really depends on your tune. you dont NEED a gsr head to achieve 400 hp but it would help reach your goals easier because it flows better. stock sleeves are pretty strong at the stock bore, the rods and pistons are the weak point. a 38 mm wastegae should work fine. people usally go 44mm to run low boost. as for turbo size, i ran a 50 trim 48ar on my gsr motr with 9:1 pistons at 18 psi and only made 370, so i would try something a little bigger. to run pump gas and make 400hp, the bigger the turbo the safer it will be because you can run less boost and reduce the chances of detonation.

most people who go for the 400whp builds will normally swap out piston and rods for aftermarket pistons and rods.

also you have to understand that when you go for a certain WHP ALOT of things change not just the ammount of power made.

you may come to need new:

axles
clutch disc
pressure plate
flywheel
lsd
traction bar

and alot of other things, just becuase you want 400whp doesnt mean that just the motor is making 400whp it also means you are throwing alot of stress on all of the other parts on your car that are oem, so it could get pretty expendsive replacing everything and getting everything just right. that is why most people stay in the 300 range, unless you have the pockets to fulley prepare yourself

Thanks for the replies guys.

I have a act lightweight flywheel, act extreme pressure plate w/street disc, also I have the lifetime warranty Autozone axles haha. I do understand i will need lsd and other suspension type mods to keep everything on the ground and not breaking Also, this car is my weekend car now so I can leave it in the garage and daily drive another car if something important breaks.

Great build, that's what I want my car to be someday relatively soon.

Ok, so it looks like I do need what I said I needed, pistons/rods/bearings/head studs/rod bolts, and it sounds like I can do that without sleeves.

Bump for more answers on if I need to grab a gsr head. I'm guessing its going to help a lot.

400whp you will need a stronger holding clutch those clutches are 75% more holding capacity than stock

Oh really? what would you recommend for that then? Could I just get a different disk, or am i going to need a new pressure plate too?

Cool thanks for the advice. Seems like people would opt to spend the extra money to have 400 hp vs the 300 people seem to mostly agree on as the safe limit for all stock internals /shrug

Would you have a recomendation on a turbo that would fit what I want to do more specifically? I have little knowledge of different AR ratings.

eh in all reality people shoot for a certain horsepower i have seem some come up short and some come out ahead of what they wanted.

it all depends on the parts you choose. alot of people will tell you that quality is key in this scene becuase the best of everything will yeild you the most!

there are a few things you should never cheap out on, and thats turbo and manifold! those are 2 keys that must be done right or your whole turbo setup can come out garbage and choked up.

yeah i hear you. I started collecting parts before I knew what i wanted and bought a Drag manifold. I just dont want to drop $1000 on a ac compatable ramhorn...

Start off with a simple-*** drag kit and 250-300 WHP, 400 WHP on your first build is going to get you in over your head.

Care to elaborate on that a little? over my head in parts or over my head in performance? I have a lot of help as far as knowing how this is all going to work from my father, although he is a hot rod guy, not an import guy.

I do have another civic that I can daily drive while this one is down, and I'm sure it will be down for awhile... Basically, it looks like it will cost about 2k from what I have gathered so far for the engine work (I know this may be way off, I'm still in research mode). I just dont want to buy a drag kit and then have it for a couple of months and then sell it and get bigger stuff... Might as well do it right the first time

when you really get down to it a manifold is definitly worth investing on, equal lengths, ramhorn, great collectors, they will get you turbo spooling faster net more overall horsepower and torque and be very relieable. 1 thousand is excessive ( even tho thats what i paid for mine lol) however i dont have a budget with my build, i am simply just getting best of whatever i want.

BUT, a good manifold will make a night and day difference. i agree with the other poster, you can get yourself in deep fast if you dont have a solid plan to stick to
