3.5 inch downpipe into 3 inch exhaust, will it bottleneck?
i have a 3 inch exhaust for my car and i have the opportunity to buy a 3.5 inch downpipe with a turbo for a good deal and i was curious if it would create a bottleneck effect or if it wouldnt matter at all, let me know, thanks vernon

It'll definitely make less power than with a 3.5" catback, but 3.5" DP to 3" catback will make more power than 3" all the way back

if i were you i'd order one of the conversion test pipes from kteller.com for 3.5" to 3" (i think they make them) and then weld on a 3.5" exhaust cutout (about 25 bucks from summit racing) onto the conversion pipe and youve just solved the bottleneck problem.

yes, because more of the piping is 3" vs 3.5"
i'll be using a 4" exhaust system eventually. i just need to get my fab guy to look at it, but for now its 3" open dp till i can get my 4" made

open downpipe in 3" will probally still make more power than a full 4" exhaust.
the noise just really sucks

yea, but my exhaust system is just a straight pipe, no cat, resonator or muffler

well i've got a good deal on a 3.5 inch downpipe but i've already got a 3 inch exhaust that i just bought and i dont want to get a 3.5 inch exhaust.
i just wanted to know if it would create a bottleneck effect or not.

it will flow a little worse than having a 3" DP with a 3" exhaust just because of the turbulance caused by the transition... if you get a nice slow conversion peice like someone was recomending the turbulance wouldent be so bad, but one of those would probably cost enough to make the "good deal" on the downpipe not worth it.
