Have any of you guys seen or heard of anybody with a 3" downpipe and full exhaust on a civic with A/C?

If so any pictures?

BTW, would it be possible to have:
inlinePRO manifold
t3/to4e 57 trim .63 A/R 5 bolt
3" downpipe
3" exhaust

and STILL retain AC? stoopid did it with a 4 bolt turbo...wondering if it could be done with 5 bolt

I doubt it. I just made a 2.5" long enough to clear A/C then flared to 3". Probably lost 1 HP or something by doing that.

According to this article https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=414433 you might have lost power going with the 3" DP...

It might be better off starting with 2.5" and flaring to 3" later in the exhaust stream. I thought the article was very informative... I guess ideal DP size depends entirely on the size of the exhaust side of your turbo. From what I got from the article, you want the first part of the DP to be as close to the same size as the turbo exhaust outlet as possible, with a gradual "trumpet" type of flare.

According to the dyno, you'll make more power at all RPM points with a 3.0" downpipe.

...given several other parameters you didn't bother to list. Thanks for the informative post.

edit: How about some facts...
"if a larger bellmouth is excessively large right at the turbine discharge (a large step diameter increase), there will be an unrecoverable dump loss that will contribute to backpressure. This is why a gradual increase in diameter, like the conical diffuser mentioned earlier, is desirable at the turbine discharge. "

yeah, i saw your post. be sure to post up pics of it installed!

BTW, I am not only interested in AC but also quicker spool times. Just wondering if the 2.5 to 3" DP spool time would be more than a straight 3"?

-Sweet, that's what I did. Yeah, I read that too, pretty cool info. I think the 3" is going to do me better since I'm going to be running 12+ PSI with a decent sized turbo. I think Art picked up like 10 HP when he went from the Revhard 2.5 to his custom 2.5-3" downpipe.

You'll have to cut half your block off to use a 4 bolt with the inlinepro.

JFYI
the square box I built was made from 16ga sheet metal and it has an area of 9 sq" VS a round 3" pipe that has 7 sq", and a 2.5" that has only 4.9 sq"!!!
In other words, it is almost the same as a 3.5" round pipe, and its mounted on a 3" VBAND directly in between the 62-1 turbo (on a Rev Hard manifold) and full size A/C compressor with room to spare!

Who says it couldn't be done?

Now, what else "can't be done"?

Hey Mochanic, what fittings and size steel line did you use to make your oil return line to your pan? Looks pretty clean and purty .

-10AN SS hose
1 45 -10 AN to 1/2 npt
2 45 -10 AN hose ends
1 straight -10 AN to 1/2 NPT with a 1/2" NPT steel nut that is welded to the inside of the oil pan

Thats the 3rd one I have done for customers so far. Clean, and neat is the only way I do something!
Thanks
Randy

Just drove the car with the newly designed "box" style 3" square downpipe!!!
Holllllyyyyyyyy crap what a ride!!! The 62-1 stage 5 is spooled by 4000k and blows the tires away just rolling on the throttle through 2nd gear and that was only at 11psi!!! I was very impressed at the throttle response and how it was not really loud at all... I will have more pics soon with everything installed and hopefully by then some dyno numbers too!

Hey ROBY, give me a call tomorrow, I have a ? for you.
being a millionaire would be nice, but thats now what I do it for, I like challenges, especially when somebody says it CAN"T be done... I get to prove them all wrong
Just as long as I get credit for it, I'm happy.

Randy makes a bunch of neat boost relates parts that he could put into production, but he only likes to do one-offs.
