215whp/175tq @ 7psi, d16
For those that haven't seen my project thread, I finally got my first tune done today. Switched car over to e85 and tuned on the 10psi wastegate spring which ended up showing 7psi at the manifold.
So, 215whp/175ft.lb. torque on just 7psi I thought was pretty decent for a d series, I am happy. Going to get boost control as soon as I can afford it and crank up the boost to 20-22psi.
We were discussing turbo upgrades for the future since this one doesn't reach full boost until pretty late. Thinking maybe a gt28rs or 30r, something along those lines. Not going to make a decision until I see how this one works on high boost.
Setup:
d16y8 wiseco/eagle bottom end
rebuilt z6 head
t3/t04e 60 trim
3" dp and exhaust
RC 1000's, hondata s300

Re: 215whp/175tq @ 7psi, d16 (justinCO)
I'd look for possible boost leaks if I were you. Its really odd to see virtually zero increase in power until that late, then a very fast ramp up. I know the turbo is fairly large, but I've seen similar setups spool their turbos far quicker. TBH that dyno looks more like a 60-1 compressor was used. The power it made at 7psi is decent for a relatively stock head/intake and lower compression. Most people have luck with quicker spoolup with the comp cam 95300, as well as more power. If you only rev to the stock redline, you wouldn't have issues with that cam. You can also get a blox intake for very cheap, and that would solve another major obstacle the D16's have in power production.
A 50trim t3/t04e can make up to 350whp on a D, same for a GT28RS. If you really did things right, you'd have a divided manifold made, and go with a GT28RS or GT2871R with an ATP divided .78ar T3-flange housing. Spool & power in one package...

Thanks for the inputs. I'll check around for boost leaks, pretty sure it's all good though. I know my bov flange is a screw on type and was loosening up, wonder if that could have made a difference.
I've definitely got upgrades in mind for the future, but first is boost control and some tuning on high boost to see what it does. So much I want to do still but I'm all out of money lol

any idea what ar the exhaust housing is? I have a 60 trim on my d16 and it doesnt spool anywhere near that high, much much lower. But then again, I am using a .48 AR housing, which is a BAD combination. Been thinking of going gt2871r.
Those are awesome numbers for a d16.
what CR are your pistons? pretty sure thats helping out in power compared to the average vitara setup.
I say slap a gt28rs on that bitch, tune it to 300whp and go have some fun.
it really depends if you autox/roadrace or not, if its a straight line car/dynoqueen/drag car then gt30r for sure, but Im really starting to miss the quick spool of junkyard turbos on ds, which is convincing me to to gt28. Still make snobs of power, too.

.63ar exhaust, stg3 wheel. It's masterpower part 810021. CR is around 8.6:1 or so from my calculations before.
Haven't driven it much on the street yet, but I can already tell I want more streetable powerband. We'll see...

e85. I'm at 40% duty cycle, and have probably 15-16psi of more boost to add.

I thought masterpower was a chinese knock-off ebay turbo? They certainly don't show up in the winner's circle like Garrett or Borg-Warner/Bullseye. I recently say a thread in which they replaced a knock-off with a Garrett, gained some power & spool at the same boost level, then found the cheap turbo's thrust bearing was eating itself. That was enough to create noticable changes in power & spool.
If its a street car, I'd recommend the 50trim Garrett at the most. You could get that, the cam, and the intake for LESS than the price of a GT28RS.

Pretty sure the masterpower are not knock offs, but ya they are not the name brand front runners like the others. I got a good deal on the turbo/mani/dp when I first started my build and thought I would take advantage of it. If it is/was a knock off then I got ripped off :/
Anyways, yea after thinking more I'm looking toward a 50trim t04e as well.
First things first though, my damn car took a **** lastnight and isn't running at the moment and I have no idea why

Yea they are not cheap, and don't seem cheap quality wise. I've owned garrett turbo's before and this one seems exactly the same.

Well, car is running again, my omni/hondata 4 bar MAP sensor failed. Swapped in stock MAP and it's running fine again.
I'm liking HiProfile's idea of switching up to a 50 trim, plus those other mods as well (cam, IM).
See how I feel about it after I get back from a quick vacation to California this weekend :D
