Default 2.0liter not strong???unreliable???

i was talking with my motor builder today and when i told him i wanted my motor bored and sleeved to 84mm(jdm itr) he said it wont be reliable??will break easier??and the bore will put more stress on the motor and that i should keep it to 82mm and let turbo do most of the work not the motor???did not make sense to me..can someone explain..

were you trying to get him to do that to stock sleeves or something?

it is just as strong, except a 84 bore is getting to the point of custom pistons, and when you rebuild you have to bore out somemore so you dont have much material left.. i run a 82 mm bore on my motor and i have no problems

you should be fine on decent aftermarket sleeves but i would reccommend going a little smaller like 83mm so you have room to bore if you break something. If you start out w/ an 84mm bore and break something, 84.5 might be getting a little too thin.

Even with a 84.5mm bore, you have .5mm overbore left. Aftermarket sleeves can withstand the pressure and not crack.

it will work. I ran 84.5mm sleeves on my daily driven car. It was a coupe with a gsr motor. The car never had any problems and took quit a beating for about 8months untill it was stolen. Just make sure to check your oil everyday and don't mess with the tunning that gets done to it.
