Default 18g internal>external wastegate

Since this hasn't been discussed for awhile and I am having some serious spiking issues with my set-up I thought that ask if there has been any new developements.

I am looking to convert to an external wastegate but I need to know the best way to go about it. Weld the gate directly to the manifold?? I take it that the dumptube needs to be routed back into the down pipe at some point?

Does anyone have any pictures of this?? Or direct me to someone that can make a manifold that is a direct bolt on meaning that I don't have to change the length of any pipes or bend them. Thanks in advance.

can't you just take off the internal wastegate and have a fabricator fabricate a downpipe with the block off plate in it. get a manifold with an external wastegate and you should be done.

I just had custom downpipe made for this set-up for pete's sake.

Where can I get a manifold that is a decent price and readily avaliable?

what type of psi are you looking to run? and whats your set up.

if your getting spiking or creep (which the 18g is notorious for) you should port the turbo and the wastegate hole while upgrading to a larger wastegate flapper.

im running the stock internal WG and everything and holds 12-13psi very well with the greddy profec b spec 2.

H22, Greddy kit, blah, blah blah. Right now I want o run 7psi while my bottom end is being built. Then 14-16 psi. I searched the database and read the threads about porting etc but they seem to be hit and miss. The only sure fire way it seems is to control the issue is by converting to external.

My down pipe is 2.5 flared to full 3" all the way back. The boost just dosen't spike is just keeps going up until 10 psi and would probably keep going if Hondata wasn't there.

if your getting your bottom end built you would want to ditch the greddy set up all together IMO

the turbo/manifold is very restrictive and not good for a whole lot of power w/o porting and stuff

im switching to a sc34/44 hybrid when i upgrade

Well 300 whp is my goal and I chose this kit for it's quick spool and street driveablilty. Not looking for stupid power. I don't drag race, obvioulsy with a heavy car like mine.

I don't have a boost controller yet. I figured that it wasn't nescessary for only 7 psi. Would a controller help at this low of a psi??

well that would definitly help control the boost.

the stock greddy wastegate spring is at 7ish psi so it shouldnt boost over that anyway...

the 18g is probably do able for 300whp and will definitly have a good spool.

there is a good thread called "Pushing the 18g" search the archives and it goes into detail about the capabilities and potential of the turbo and kit.

if your interested i have a blitz sbc-id dual solenoid boost controller for sale...PM me if interested
