Default 14b + d16y8

im trying to piece together a turbo kit for my 96 coupe, is a 14b a good match to a d16y8? considering the engines size i was thinking maybe it would suck and boost would come late?

The 14b would suit the Y8 perfectly. If you do a search you will see for yourself that many guys on here have had success with the 14b.With the right setup the 14b can make some decent power.

Spool time is overrated. I was worried about the same thing before I knew anything about turbos, but trust me it's not a big deal. Your not going to get traction is your turbo spools too fast anyways, so who cares. Just worry about top end power because that is what hondas are for. When your racing your rpms will never drop low enough to where spool time will even matter.

That said a 14b will be fine. Personally I would want a bigger turbo though.

im only shooting for about 170ish whp, 200 would be nice, but i dont know when the stock internals will let loose

That should be fine for 170whp. Stock internals will be more than fine, but make sure it gets tuned good. My goal is 200whp or so and I'm going with the T3 Super 60 on stock internals.

Well, if your goal is 170ish whp and worry about the spool time, then consider T25 from the 2g DSM. My stock D16 T25 spools super fast! Starts at 2200~2300 full boost under 3000. I have seen many people made over 200whp with this turbo.

Yeah a T25 will work, but no. Go with the 14b or bigger turbo. I would go no smaller than a t3 60 trim .60/.48 if you can (that's what I have).
