The ad states that there is a crack in the turbo. Tonight the seller sent me a pic, can you guys tell me if this is fixable or would ever be a problem? I really can't tell from the pic.



Here's the smic. The hole needs to be TIGged and not fluxcore MIGged (all I have is flux core), right?

 

This is worrying me (maybe unnecessarilly). Can my little Craftsman fluxcore welder fix that crack in the exhaust housing if need be?

 

leave the exhaust housing as is, the intercooler will need to be aluminum tigged, and they're gonna have to weld a plate over that ,. not fill it in.

 

So that crack in the exhaust housing isn't anything? I don't want some crazy **** like exhaust filling my engine bay or boost spiking or anything.

 

all those housings crack and it won't affect performance on 99% of them. Why even fix that IC, it's trashed? they are $15 at the yards around here. it will be at least $25 to fix it i bet.

 

Ill buy the turbo from you.

 

I totally want to keep it if the crack won't generate any problems. Yeah I may not even bother with the smic. Who knows, if I get it and I can JBWeld a piece of metal in there and have it sealed, I'll keep it. Ghetto or not, epoxies can do some amazing ****.

edit: The biggest yard around here has a few DSM's, but they are non-turbo and usually automatics :\

 

I got the turbo stuff. Some of the pintle caps on the injectors are cracked, is this necessarily a problem? The turbo is in good shape. The intercooler I'll probably scrap or something and get a Starion.
