Re: **OFFICIAL FORCED INDUCTION RANDOM CHAT THREAD**
Yeah I'm going to send it off to Pure Tuning and have them inspect and replace what's needed.
I'll try to break it down super simple...
I had two integras one USDM GS-R and one JDM ITR.
Last year the USDM DC2 had the following
Sleeved Golden Eagle Block w/ Pure Tuning Built Head
The JDM ITR has a stock ITR motor in it during this time.
USDM car was boosted at the time and blew up. Cracked a ringland in cylinder #3 (Pictures I posted earlier of the screwed up piston) that's from the Golden Eagle motor.
Once this motor blew I parted ways with that car but the Pure Tuning cylinder head looked fine so I kept it. No visual damage on the head so I didn't bother sending it off to get checked.
Fast forward to this year. I pull the stock ITR motor from my JDM ITR and sent a spare B18C1 block I had off to RameyRacing to get built. They send me back an assembled shortblock and I throw it in the ITR. Wanting to keep my stock ITR longblock I figure why not throw my old Pure Tuning head on this new RameyRacing built motor.
After throwing the head on did a 500 mile break in for the clutch and motor and took it to get tuned with my GoAutoworks turbo kit on. Remember I never got the head inspected from when it came off the old Golden Eagle motor so I hit the dyno and not even 1hr into tuning and doing pulls we lose part of the exhaust valve not even turning any crazy rpms still on low boost and no timing on E85. The valve issue happened on the same cylinder that blew on the other motor.
hope that helps clear things up😂

Yeah I'm assuming the valve could have had micro cracks or something from the events with the old motor.

Just caught up on the last few pages. @GEN2 LS here is my two cents.
The block looks great, but while you have the head off I'd pull the problem piston out and inspect it and verify the rings are set and gapped correctly yourself - it's easy to do. You can reuse the same bearings, just be careful to keep everything clean. And obviously, you'll need to get the head inspected and fixed. I'd also have the fuel injectors checked, perhaps one is off and you damaged a valve from heat which caused a guide to fail letting oil into the combustion chamber.
Something happened to cause the damage, you don't want a repeat.

Re: **OFFICIAL FORCED INDUCTION RANDOM CHAT THREAD**
84mm b16 that is currently still bolted to the car. Cylinder walls got fucked from setting after like 6 month. Were rusted, scored, ring wear marks. Pistons are pitted with lead deposits all over them. They looked as bad as the spark plug. Pretty resembled weld splatter. 84mm golden eagle sleeves, eagle h beams, and b16 crank should still be usable. Sleeves will need to be cleaned up obviously

What compression was your old b16 block? Having had both b16 and my current b18c blocks, the b18c blocks are a nice upgrade. That pump in displacement and stroke really helps midrange power. 84mm b18c is the play!

Re: **OFFICIAL FORCED INDUCTION RANDOM CHAT THREAD**
Pistons were 10.8 domed traum pistons. Combustion chamber on the b16 head opened up to 84mm aswell.
I told ramey i wanted to go with 10.8 again If it wasnt custom. If it would be a custom piston again, to go with 10.7 comp pistons. So upcoming here soon will be a 84mm b18c with 10.7 or 10.8 compression

Im waiting to pick up my traum 81.5 10:5.1 pistons then dropping my blocl off to get bored than all back together next week.
All my bearings looked just like the day i put them in. Minus cyl 4

I really liked my traum pistons. Especially compared to the wack je 81.5mm 9.0:1 pistons i had prior lol
What do you think happened to the journals on cylinder 4

Oh no, that sucks @Pepe14 . B-series blocks are getting harder to find. I've been hoarding them and will grab'em when one pops up on FBM for cheap.

Re: **OFFICIAL FORCED INDUCTION RANDOM CHAT THREAD**
Tried getting in touch with Pure Tuning called and emailed and they never get back with me even after stating they would via phone.
So I had a local machine shop check the cylinder head.
Their biggest concerns were the following
- Inconsistent reshaping of the combustion chamber/bowl area
- Valve guides cut with too much material removed
- Seat damage on the exhaust seat where the valve broke apart
Machine shop said i'd be better off with a new head versus sinking so much money into fixing this. I want a second and third opinion from builders like 4piston, BZE etc. Not discredting the local shop just would hate this to be a paper weight from something so small.
Exhaust valve seat damage
Combustion Chambers reshaped to 84mm (uneven)

Re: **OFFICIAL FORCED INDUCTION RANDOM CHAT THREAD**
On the outside edges of each cylinder you can kinda see how it's not a smooth curvature all the way around. Easier to see in person but I will say I had no headgasket sealing issues etc so I wasn't too worried about it honestly. Yeah this machine shop mainly does american V8's mostly and KA motors from 240's. I know they dabbled in honda stuff back in the day but don't know if they've kept up with the times on what other race compaines are doing to these heads now.

Re: **OFFICIAL FORCED INDUCTION RANDOM CHAT THREAD**
@Pepe14 that seems really easy to repair with a tig welder…just run a pass around the rim of the valve seat, peen it and then remachine yeah?
Do you know what grade of casting it is? A356?

Re: **OFFICIAL FORCED INDUCTION RANDOM CHAT THREAD**
The oil looked terrible. I didnt change it from the entire time i messed with tuning the skunk cams. It popped a vac/boost line and was running rich the last track event. Its had a bunch of tuning time and 3 track days on the same oil. Its 100 percent my fault the bearing let go.
