Revving out problem
hey guys i have got a b18cr in a eg when im doing high speeds runs or high revs my check engine light is coming on and vtec stops working as soon as i turn the car off and turn it back on the check engine light turns off and vtec works again. my ecu has been chipped to a type r map.
Well for starters, you should get the check engine code read. I'm assuming with vtec it's obd2, so u can go to any local parts store and they'll read the codes, they just can't erase them (at least that's the "rule" here) cheap code readers are only 20$ on ebay, I paid 50$ for a "Mac tools" reader that can do real time readings while driving.
If the check engfine light comes on right after your VTEC crossover point, your issue is with the solenoid or it's wiring, or the pressure switch or it's wiring. It can also be the ECU if it's been converted from a non-VTEC ECU.
its an obd1 and the check engine light doesnt go on after the vtec cross over it goes on when i reach high speeds like 150 or 160. im getting it scanned in the next few days.
thanks for the help.
thanks for the help.
i hope you have proper safety measures driving at that speed lol unless you mean km/h
and are you using ebay ecu conversion harness by any chance?
could be a speed limiter if its on chipped ecu

1) it's headeR. not headerS. you have 1 headeR
2) either those speeds are in kmh, or you're exhaggerating a LOT
3) sounds like you don't maintain the car very well, which will always cause issues
4) vtec stopping working is usually from a vtec related trouble code, most likely low oil pressure. either from a clogged screen, low on oil, worn out engine, wrong oil viscosity, crappy oil, not doing oil changes on time, or the fact that you're simply hammering on it WAAAAAAAY too much and getting the oil entirely too hot and thinning it out.
5) a chipped ecu is garbage unless it's tuned. no matter what map you put on it, even if it's supposedly a stock map for the actual engine you're running, it is rarely an accurate map and always NEEDS an actual TUNE
6) you really need to retrieve the trouble code to diagnose it AT ALL. the cel is there for a reason. USE IT
