Default NeptuneRTP throws solid CEL

My car threw a solid CEL and I've sadly found it to be caused by my RTP unit. A stock ECU works, a chipped ECU works (mine without the RTP unit), but when I put the RTP unit on on the ECU, it throws a solid CEL. Has this happened to anyone before? It has run with the RTP before and I didn't have any issues before it threw a solid CEL.

Check to see if it has any codes first, I have never had it happen, have you tried restting the demon be sure to save your tune first. Most likely not this but check what sensors are disabled or possibly mil shiftlight is set to.maybe your jumper harness wiring if you use one

naturally you want to try to reset the RTP and upload a new rom, but failure happens. most often I find it's due to not being seated right in the ECU, but it can also just be from vibration over time, or a result of water shorting or bad wiring which can damage sensitive devices. it's not very common, especially with the demon, so definitely try a new rom first.

I had this happen to me. It ended up being the demon not seated all the way in the ecu. Try carefully reinstalling it into the ecu and verifying it is fully seated on it pins.

I reinstalled it several times into the ECU, but maybe it wasn't in there right/vibrated and had some issues with the ROM.

Luckily, I lost my cord. So I am ordering a new one. I wanted to check my other options while I wait on delivery of the cord. I couldn't find a micro male B USB to male A USB at the mall/Walmart/Radio Shack, so I ordered one online.

Oh, I realized I didn't reply to turbonetics. The switch I have wired to check for codes (OBD1 setup) just leaves the CEL solid. It goes away with a ECU that just has a chip and not the demon board. I'll try messing with the demon software when I get my new data cable.

Thanks, I'll post back in about a week when I get to mess with it.

I've tried a new ECU. Same solid CEL HOWEVER, the car started. It is in 'limp mode' though. It won't rev past 3-4k and the idle is shaky as hell.

I couldn't pull any codes via the RTP either, so I assume this is limp mode. I'll try searching but most threads on limp mode don't seem to help me. I want to trouble shoot it, not throw parts at it.

Did you upload a tune to it?

To the best of my knowledge, yes. I've successfully used this Demon unit (V1.2) in the past with this car/setup/ECU.

I uploaded a new tune to the ECU based on the P30 code on a P28 ECU via Neptune and the issue is the same.

It will not datalog and I cannot access CEL codes via the RTP unit.

My unit is the v1 demon with a battery. How do I remove the battery? Does it just slide out? I've never thought to replace it until searching information on the demon board.

Yeah, $1500 vs my $300 unit just isn't going to happen. Shoot, there isn't one thing on that car that is worth $1,500. I'd run a stock P30 in it right now if I could find one.

Can someone confirm that this is 'limp mode'

Rather long video (

Lol Neptune is a real ems. It does everything and more then most people need. I know I'm more then happy with mine and customer service is second to none. Hard to put a $1500 ems on a car that books for less then $1500 anyways lol.

I see your point dude. All I'm saying is Neptune rtp demon package is pretty damn good for the money compared to other options. I'll stop cluttering this thread now lol. Op good luck getting your issue resolved.

If it's powered via USB it would work regardless of the battery situation unless it's installed improperly, not making contact because of a broken lead, is blank (Hasn't been uploaded to yet), etc.

Neptune is not an EMS, it's a rom editor.
But IMO it does just as good of a job, and much faster, than an EMS.

IF it's installed properly, failure rate is just as negligible as AEM's injector driver failure rate

But that is a pretty old demon, if your battery is bad it definitely could have deleted your tune.

I just realized it is a V1.2. Maybe I am getting old but I just couldn't make out the 1 on the board. Does the battery just slide out? I've never really messed with it.

Even powered by USB with the laptop hooked up, it is having issues. The video I posted in my last post was with the lap top connected and a fresh ROM installed prior to turning the key.

1.2 has a battery. Definitely get in touch with Moates.net and he'll walk you through the proper procedure.
