Buy a proper EMS and read alot. EFI 101 is your best place to start. You should contact Chris at Xenocron. He is an instructor for the EFI 101 course

Buy a tuning software / hardware and read a lot on the Internet. The best way for me to learn was trial and error. I Learn more about my car and how to tune it each time I play with it.

Engine Management System. Neptune, Hondata s300, Ectune, Crome, CromePro. Or aftermarket standalone EMS like AEM.

for learning purposes, you will first want to use an engine management that doesnt give you a headache and actually does what it says it is doing.

I put a AEM on my daily driver in the middle of winter (in MI).

I learned a lot about cold starts real quick.

I recommend starting on something stock or mildly modified so you have a very forgiving safety margin (for timing & fuel). And just play around. It's the only way you'll learn the correlation between all the values. I still mess around with my car all the time.

Buy s300 and a wideband upload a base map and read the contents over and over and just play with everything on a not busy road and just have fun. Set up lean protection and boost cut and go at it.
