Default ECU Bare Essentials

Is it possible to tune a P28 so that it will only have enough functionality to crank and run without any sort of safety or emission checks? I have a 96 Civic that has been converted to OBD1 with a Y8 VTEC Head and an d16 bottom end. It is in a dirt track stock car, so street-legal is not an issue. The problem I am having is that it will intermittently cut off while racing and sometimes even while idling. Very random. Everything on the car has been changed - all sensors, fuel pump, plugs, engine - but it still cuts off randomly.

Any ideas?

"cutting off randomly" Isn't caused by a "emissions check error"

Your problem is related to a wiring issue or ignition component problem etc.

What are you referring to when you say "ignition component problem"?
Thanks.

Ignition control module or coil issues.

You need to determine if the vehicle is loosing spark or fuel or both when you have this random "cut out". Then you need to proceed from there.

New fuel pump and filter. What else, other than the main relay, plays a part in the fuel side of the air / fuel mixture?

any wires shorting out?
main relay in good condition?
try another one from the junk yard.

main relays can be goofy and annoying

injectors / wires good, tried several different relays - took apart and examined solder joints and all OK.
