That's not what the chips are for, honestly. Use one to get the car running and broken in and then get it to a tuner. If that's not feasible, look into doing remote tunes. The two vendors that you are looking to avoid are two of the most reliable options out there.

The best option will always be a local tuner. Especially if you live at a different altitude or climate from where your online basemap is coming from, it's just not going to be as good of a starting point.
If that's not an option, the companies you already mentioned are popular for good reason, so there's no reason to make a big fuss about something you have to tune soon anyway.
