I was tweaking my AFC-2 for better mpg and so far I have gotten a 5mpg increase just by backing off my fuel by 20% at low throttle, but I get bucking with anything over and I need to advance the timing a little more now and I can't.

I was thinking I can drill out the holes on the distributor longer so I can adjust it, but I don't know if it will work or not since it's OBD-II. I don't want to do an OBD-II to OBD-I conversion because this is still an automatic car and the auto transmission is controlled by the ECU.

Will this work to advance timing on my OBD-II Accord?

I was never able to physically change the timing with the dizzy on my 96 OBD2 F22B2. I'm pretty sure that it is ECU controlled. I also thought about drilling out the holes but never tried it. I converted to an OBD1 ECU in stead.

On another note I am just wondering what, if anything, you are using to monitor your AFRs & EGTs? It's great that you are getting 5mpg more. But do you have a way to make sure that your not running the risk of leaning it out too much and melting something?

For now it's an NA engine and I monitor the AFR with a wideband. I was thinking about the EGT's, but it doesn't get rediculously hot at all and stays stock temp on the water gauge. Nothing melting over hear. I did this with my other F22b1, but that one was turbocharged and I got 31mpg with that.

This is ONLY for part throttle, anything above 20% is stock fuel trim.

Did you try taking off the bolts and turning it and checking the timing after? I'm going to give that a try this weekend and see if it works.

Cool, just wanted to make sure that you weren't going to melt something.

Instead of drilling out the dizzy have you thought about maybe buying an adjustable cam gear?

Wow, never thought of that. I guess that would just about do the same thing. Maybe I'll look into that because I was just checking out the distributor and there is not as much metal there to drill longer holes as I would like.
