Icon5 2016 CR-V engine cover

Hey folks... This afternoon I was washing my car and then the car wouldn't start. So, I unplugged the battery, used compressed air to dry out any area in the engine compartment. One area that I couldn't get to was the spark plug wires. So, as I was removing the engine cover to access the wires, I broke the bolts for the engine cover. Now, I am going to have to try to use some sort of tool to remove the broken bolts. Are they tightened in reverse?

What tool did you use to try to remove them, a ratchet? If you were using a ratchet, the ratchet may have inadvertently got changed to tighten. That bolt is Honda part number 90014-R40-A00 which is also commonly used on other Hondas. It loosens by turning it counter-clockwise like most other bolts. Generally, they should loosen easily, as the recommended torque on them is usually around 8.7 lbf.ft.

Thanks Tech8. I appreciate it.

Yes, I was using a ratchet. The problem was that in the moment when the car wasn't starting and your own 'fuse' is about the burn, it is very possible that the ratchet switched to tighten and I didn't even notice. Now, as I think about how I am going to remove it, I wanted to make sure the correct tightening direction.
