Knock noise after rebuild B16
Hi there, im having a problem with a rebuild B16 i did, never had any problem , i rebuild many engines with not problem, what's why i dont know where could be the problem. everything was checkend, kings bearings STD size, new pistons rings, new oil pump, etc.
I have to say some details, first start of this engine , took a lot of time to get it runs, never had a problem with first start, normally take a bit but not too long as this one engine. Im thinking maybe fuel was mixed with oil then oil isnt lubricate correctly, using Motul 10W40, nothing special.
engine is around 3-4 hours only, when it rev noise dissapear, tried to heard it with stethoscope, noise came from 3 rod, but it's weird, only happen when it's cold, after 4-5 min, engine sounds very very smooth.
then i decided to remove oil pan for inspect for anything, found this fine chips, removec 3 rod cap and this is what i found, marks arent deep, decided to recheck crank endfload and 3 rod endloaf and everything is OK, about 0.12mm for crank and 0.11mm for rod.

Re: Knock noise after rebuild B16
yes, always. all between specs, i'd say a bit clearance than normal but into specs (0.06mm limit)), i know kings bearings give a bit clearance normally, never had any problems with these.
what i dont understand is why just in cold , normally when an engine has rod knock is always. yes, engine had a bit similar noise before. i even got crank micropolished for got get everything good.

I think some kind of shaving in somewhere got into bearing and messed it up.
Replace bearing in car and hope for the best is what I would do.
Hell I would replace all rod bearings in car.

Re: Knock noise after rebuild B16
are you certain that you checked the clearances on both sides of the crank?
it could have been out of round.... i see that you purchased king bearings, which are one-size-fits all.
many times journals have different specs, and sometimes they need two different bearing sizes in one journal as well..
did you do your **** without lube btw? >:D
EDIT: also, are you sure the caps were for the correct journal as well? hey, we all do dumb crap sometimes
