The S&W roller is between 45-60K depending on how you option out parts. And is by far the best chassis i have delt with. The pro/fwd X-trac is 42-45K.

does gm ever break the xtrac? for that price it better be bullet proof. do you have to service it after evry race? if your looking to build a profwd car and looking into trans, get a lierley fabrication setup. its bulletproof . thats xtrac is for mega ballers.

The Xtrac doesn't break(hasn't yet)... very close to bulletproof... and service it as long as you want to catch a potential problem before it gets worse..

what does very close to bulletproof mean?? so do yhey tear it apart after every race. whats the cost on that?? replacement part cost???? so if you pay 45,000 for the trans how much to keep the trans in good shape all season? thanks

We tore ours apart a few times this year and it didn't cost us anything. The one cost we did have was totally our fault, but the Xtrac was bullet proof. Ours is an older model, too.

As far as I know, all the the Xtrac's in all of the GM cars have been perfect. We are actually putting one in our big dyno cell for track evaluation simulation tests. Granted, this trans will have different types of engines on it ( from the LS7's, to new and upcoming GM V8's ) but it will definately be put through it's paces. So all in all, the Xtrac is a great trans.

On a side note, I have also seen the Fortin trans be abused. In all the years that Ed B has ran that trans ( going on 5 years now ), we only changed one gear set because the dogs were a little questionable. All in all, that trans has also proven it's worth to me. That trans only runs about $14,000 ( plus the midplate you will need to adapt it to your engine ). I would say that it's pretty much bullet proof as well ( now some of you will say that Rado, Carlson, Kubo and Papadakis all had issues with this trans, and they did, but I am confident to say that they were not using the trans properly. By that I mean that all of them had any combination of issues that ultimately ended in the trans being blamed for it's own failure. There are many things to consider why those trans failed, and Ed's has not. Not every failure is mechanical... I know why it failed on Kubo's car, and I am pretty sure I know why on Papadakis as well. Carlson and Rado had their issues for some reason I am unaware of )

Service on the X-trac consist of this. Every two races drain the fluid, take off gear cassette, inspect gears, dog rings, shift fork, and barrell. Then say damn this thing still looks brand new. reassemble put back in car and refill fluid. And after a year of racing and testing, and that being my service all year long. the internals look just like they did the first time i opened it up.

tearing it apart is just part of preventative maintenance meaning disassemble, inspect, reassemble..... close to bulletproof means... it worked an entire season, testing, 60' hits..etc without ANY problems, ANY breakage... but what part of a race car is 100% bulletproof?? from what I recall.. the cost of transmission oil was the cost of running it the season..
