Default weldon pump problem...maybe

I am just getting my car together and I have a problem I think that maybe someone here can help me out with. I have my weldon pump on a single toggle switch ran to relay back to pump. The pump is getting 12v but here is the issue. The first time I flipped the switch the pump clicked and that was it so I shut the switch off. So I checked all wires, voltage, etc and everything was good. not changing anything I hit the switch again and the pump started spinning but it doesn't sound like a usual weldon pump does. It sound like it's spinning freely but doesn't have the loud whining pumping noise. And it's not pumping fuel I have the feed line ran into a gas can and it's pumping nothing into it. The tank is a Nrg tech cell with about a little over a gallon of fuel in it.

Make sure you use a fuel filter, If any tiny piece of dirt goes in the pump, It will break the gear. That sounds like what happend to you.

The good thing is: all you should have to do is replace the pump/motor coupler.
The bad thing is: that's definitely from something getting in the pump cartridge & jamming it up. If the couplers didn't snap, you'd trash the pump cartridge itself and those are $420 - $460 to replace, so be thankful they fail the way they do.

You absolutely have to run a quality 45 micron filter before those pumps. I'm happy to help if you need anything, feel free to get in touch.

No Tony I checked that too for the in and out being backwards. I also have the Weldon filters pre and post. Could it be there not enough fuel in tank. About one gallon in the cell but the lines are pretty much on the bottom of these cells

You should see two screw heads on the top of the motor.
Unscrew them and separate the motor from the body.
You should have two couplers; one on the motor side and one on the cartridge side with a rubber cushion between them.
It will be obvious if the couplers snapped.

Yeah, try loosening the outlet fitting on the pump while it's running. If that doesn't do it, pull it apart as Scott described and check the couplers.

I will do both of those things as soon as I get out to the garage thanks guys.

Hey scott you are located in Michigan correct? Funny thing is that's the race I'm trying to get this thing ready for.

We're on the opposite side of the state, but I'll be there. Give me a call at work tomorrow, I could bring anything you may need to the track.

call weldon directly. ask for jim craig. he is awesome. parts are cheap. i didnt have my tank vented properly and it actually crushed the tank to the point that the drive coupler snapped. because it pulled such a vacuum. it is a mechanical fuse because the pump assembly is made of tool steel and wont break. if you need them fast, there is a ford dealer in jersey, called downs ford, talk to ricky in the motorsports section. he has the rebuild kits. usually in stock.

weldons service is stellar. jim let me call him on a saturday and walked me through rebuilding the pump. it is cake. 2 bolts and 2 set screws.

What fuel pressure regulator? Did you have a chance to check pressure? Is the regulator all the way out making fuel pressure very low?
