Default Transmission gearset fitment and diff question....

Here is my question....

I've got two aftermarket gearsets, Liberty and a PPG, and I don't understand why these manufacturs use the B16A ring gear pattern vs. the B18C pattern....

Is there really that much of a difference between the two? Why not make a gearset compatible with the B18C pattern? I would think that using the nicer bearings (B18C) would be the way to go. Can someone explain this please?

Thanks in advance.

The B16 ring gear is beefier then the GSR.

I thought you could use the "good" bearings on b16 too?

you can, remove the receivers for the bearings and you can use the enclosed bearing on either of the diff's.

By the way, ppg has ring gears for both gsr/type r and ls/b16

In what aspect, thickness of where it mounts to the diff, allowable tooth depth or what?

I only have GSR stuff here to look at.

Hmmmm Erik never mentioned having a B16B/B18C or B16A fitment....

I'm pretty positive I have the B16A ring gear, but I'm not home to see it first hand.

I know for a fact that my Liberty has the B16A ring gear and that it has a DSS B16A spool in it, but I have yet to crack the case on it, hense my questions....

the gforce ring gear is compatiable for both diffs makes it easier if something break in the diff.

Maybe that's because I'm coming from a Liberty and Erik knew I had that ring gear currently....

It's good either way.

Thanks fellas.
