tranny question
i went 2 the track yesterday and after a few runns i noticed 3rd gear was hard 2 get into and was grinding really bad so im guessing syncros.. i saw thaT Gearspeed makes a carbon coated syncro kit for 3/4 has anyone ran these b4 and what are the advantages of the carbon coating if any or should i just go with stock syncros
Your synchro rings are basically "Brake Pads" for your gears (i.e to slow down the gear).
The carbon coated synchros are more efficient and provide extra bite, helping to slow down the gear quicker.
If you are running a synchronous setup, these are highly recommended

Trust us. Just get the 3/4 synchro sleeve set. It's usually a little bit cheaper at the Honda dealer than gearspeed. And the carbon coated stuff I don't think is worth it. It wears off pretty quick then it's just a synchro again.. But that's just my $.02
thanks but as far as the coating wearing off the car is a race car does'nt see the street so i dunno how fast that stuff wears off but i dont think 4-5 passes a weekend will wear it off very fast but just out of curiousity where can i get just a set of stock syncros besides the dealer??
The only way to tell if you need to change the slider would be to drop the tranny.
Your synchro rings will wear out first, then the slider/dog-teeth will wear. If you catch it early enough, you may not need to change your slider, which keeps costs down.
As for synchro wear, the carbon-moly synchros shelf-life is very similar to the stock brass synchros (if not more), whether street, track or strip and are most definitely worth changing due to the increased performance that they give. If you do end up needing to change the slider, you can purchase the slider seperate from the hub, along with carbon synchros instead of the oem synchros (obviously not from Honda though).

well i'm just gonna change the whole syncro set it not really expensive thru gear speed 250 for the whole set cuz my syncros now are pretty worn is there anything that i can look for 2 see if the syncro sleeve is worn to the point where it needs 2 be replaced

That price is for the synchro rings only, and includes brass 1st/2nd, carbon 3/4/5.
For the slider, you would need to look at the teeth on it and see if they are worn or not.
