Something is wrong in HotRod class...
I just have a question, some of you guys are saying that it would be good if Honda came into the picture and corporatley sponsored some of the racers it would help... how???..I can see that it would be rewarding to some, but isnt the question at hand the HR class is getting faster and its harder for the lower budget guys to compete? All the Honda backing would do would just be a battle between companies to see who is faster, not make any of the lower budget guys be any more competitive, shoot it may even make the hot rod class even FASTER...

By the looks of the pics in Modified mag the event looked packed with alot of people.
I honestly do not think a DART block is our answer. If you think about it if GM or Mopar is allowed to run aftermaket stuff then we are really doomed. By doing that we are letting them get even futher than they are now. The fact of the matter is that it takes MONEY period. Gary and his team is the ONLY team that I know of taking the limits of the b-series. Gardella is the only team I know of in Hot Rod that is taking the factory castings and "modifying" them to make big power. They are coloring outside of the lines so to speak, but still keeping with in the rules. And GM is doing the same thing. We all have to really think out side of the line and stop thinking things have to be one way. Be different for once and stop building a car like everyone else. Think outside of the box is key and Gary is the ONLY one doing this...
Now, granted this does take money and not everyone has this. Just because you are not sponsored by a big corp. doent mean they dont have money. It takes money and hard work because I know of teams who have money, just no brains....

One more thing, I went to an IRL race last year and I know why Honda will not help. They have more Return On Investment(ROI) there. Seriously, they are more profesional and I think we all need to be more professional. Impression is everything.
Does anyone think GM was really stupid to run an 8.08 in the finals against a car that they could have beat with a half pass? All it has served to do is to **** off a bunch of people. NHRA used to run it's comp and stock eliminator handicap races off of indexes for particular classes. If a racer could run way under the index, they would be smart enough not to do that so they would not lower the index for his class.
The problem is that soon GM will be able to run in the 7's and be as consistent as a bracket car. No Honda running on the edge can put 3 good passes together anywhere near that number. That is the frustration of the situation. NHRA created the GM monster and now they don't know how to control it...so they just keep feeding it whatever it wants

this is the point im getting at. the honda motors have plenty of power in them. we are not handicapped to say gm in any way. the motors gary uses are relatively simple, very well thought out and theyve got a really good tune up. and theyre under 2.0 liters, with other honda blocks available there is more room for displacement for the future. the car already has gone 180 and that was using stock honda tranny.
i think its great that gm went 8.08 and mopar went 8.24 these are the kind of times we knew the hotrod cars could push early into last year. for everyone bitching about not being able to afford it then stick to all motor or sport fwd
slowing down the class is the most rediculous thing too, the reason these cars are getting so fast is because theyre squeezing every last bit out of these tiny freaking 4 cylinders and its exciting as hell to be around. since some people are more advanced in their program than the others you want to slow everyone down to make the races more "exciting"? well then go to your local drag night and watch the bracket cars run... this is HEADS UP racing. ***** out racing.
once more people get the bugs worked out and a few more step it up... youre guaranteed to have a full 8 car field of 1000hp monsters battling it out... sure some will break at the line.. others will run neck and neck.. thats why its so exciting you never know what to expect

sadly, you are missing the whole point of the last 6 pages and are only looking at how it affects you and not import racing in general and hot rod class in particular. I guess an unlimited budget can do that to a team.
racing takes money, wtf is it that people can't understand about that. yeah, the big budgets give gm an advantage, but there no point whining about it. they can still be beaten, and money's not everything. look how much money abel gets from mazda and k&n, his car can barely make it down the track. look how much money shaun gets from mopar, he can't put together any consistent runs. look at adam and rado, they have so many problems it's not even funny. kenny's not exactly hurting for money either. and for all the people who think honda hasn't been putting money into this thing, since when was the millions they gave to adam and steph chump change? and how exactly is honda putting money into hr supposed to help everyone? now we'll have one more quick car that no else can catch, how is that supposed to help all the low budget teams? we don't even have any pro cars running k or f series motors, which flow a ton more than the ecotecs, and people already wanna go all the internet and complain. as it is gary makes about the or more hp than gm, lance's civic was making 1200+hp at the crank, so hondas definitely still have the power to win. no doubt gm plays to win, but you can't fault them for that, they've made a commitment to win and they've put a lot of money and effort into it. gm has raised the bar higher, you can either sit there and cry about it or try to jump over it.
yep and Kenny has the great over hyped Bob Norwood on his side ...That made such headlines and has yet to make any impact
out money'd? nope more like out skilled
the GM and to a lesser degree Mopar guys have a very nice R&D operation..second to none

Dont know if you got the memo but Bob Norwood is no longer with kenny. Its only the 2nd race of the season but he has yet to get back into the 8's.

Wrong! Gotta' stick up for my buddy Norwood here....Kenny was running solid eights when Norwood and Tony were involved....Since they quit tuning the car it hasn't been out of the nines. Draw your own conclusions...
Kenny is an experienced racer though and I am sure he will get it all figured out and be back on the pace sometime soon.
Over-hyped? Don't kid yourself. check this out and then tell me he is over-hyped: http://bobnorwood.com/Norwood%20Story.htm

NHRA didn't ban the car- the rules were changed so Norwood had to re-engineer the driveline to work with the smaller tire for NHRA. Its legal and will be racing soon.
Its still got a four-linked solid front axle...

well then it should be a fun season
records are being smashed left and right
much more exciting then NHRA pro stock where everyone runs prety much the same times...This whats makes sport compact racing the most exciting
seeing how fast these cars will go with such small CC's
as for all the bitching about money
Ford was in the game and pulled out leaving all the focus teams out to dry
same thing with Mopar and GM teams
if they (GM/Mopar) back out
Kubo etc will be hard pressed to keep the program going on there own

What makes the GM/Mopar team strong. One thing. Consistency. As somebody mentioned they could bracket race those cars. Now that Gary and others are using the xtrac they hopefully too will get more consistent.
That does nothing for the lower budget racers. Because none of them can afford a xtrac and you will not be competitive at every race running 8.5 one pass then 9.3 the next pass because of tranny issues.
So basically the class is just getting faster. It sucks for the smaller teams but your solution basically is to go run sport FWD.

If honda were to jump in i would say that the best class would be for them to go to would be ALL MOTOR....honda is naturally aspirated...not boost or NOS....INDY, F1 are all motorr...so it would be natural for American Honda to sponsor a all motor racer, plus those cars are more grassroots than any other class and most people can relate to all motor than to any other class.
Instead of crying for honda....where are all the USDM aftermarket companies that we buy/use their parts at? Where is crower, arius, je, aem, motec...yada yada yada...these are the folks that we need to be screaming at, not honda. hell only the castings of the blocks and heads are honda...everything else is mostly aftermarket...from the bolts, pistons, gears, cams,...u get my point. i hope.
gone.

Whos fault is it that HONDA doesnt want to help us.? Get honda to step up to the plate We spent enought $$$$ on honda in the past 10 years.
Everyone in Sport FWD is crying about JASON and BRIAN... they are not corprate sponsored jason is running 9.80 and brian is at 150mph .... I stop building my Sport Fwd copue becasue of them. And what a joke with a multi-million dollar buget all they got is low 8s... Gary gardella is right behind them with no major sponsors. stop crying and do your homework.. With the amount of time you guys sit on h-t .... i rather not say.

ummm i think Adam saruwatari is the main person to blame for honda not helping..They tried hlping him and look what happens, the ****** is scared of the cars in his class with nhra so he only goes to idrc's and Battle's...And then they gave him a chance with the new SI and look what that fucktard did with that, all that car turned out to be was a really expensive show car...And then look at RJ devera, they gave him a rsx like 3 years ago and that car has yet to be even started...**** like that i think has left a big sour note with honda...

unfortunately, I feel that the only way for this to start appealing to the "self-funded" racer is to have an indexed version of the hotrod class... that way the lower budget guys can still compete...
I personally dont care, I'll come out anyways and get knocked out first round... but I'll have fun doing it...

exactly...no one said they didnt do any work...just thats its a hell of a lot easier than doing all the work, staying up 24-48 or more hours getting ready to race, and have it all come out of their own pockets, etc etc...and then get eliminated 1st round...its all hard work no matter which way you look at it
