Default shifting pointer

This isn't really drag racing but I'm thinking y'all might have some good input.

I was on the highway the other day and this old teg and me were going at it. I dropped into 3rd at about 60 and got the rpms way up there. I spent a few seconds accelerating, but I didn't pass him, and I looked down at the tach, and it was up at redline (6.25k). I didn't hit rev limiter, but I think I left it in 3rd way to long. My dyno says I'm making the most torque and hp between 4 and 5k.

So my question is: Would I have been quicker if I had shifted into 4th at about 5k. I think the answer is yes, but you might say it wouldn't have made a difference.

-Thanks
