shifting around 7800 is good on a b16. That's what I did when I had my si. My times were alot more consitant and the car felt like it responded better than shifting at red or a little past.

With my B16a my redline is 8500 and I shift at like 7800-8000 and it seems to work pretty good. I don't like going to redline just to be safe.

Most Honda 4-bangers with stock internals make power until they hit rev-limit. I shift my D16A6 a nanosecond before the ECU cuts in, I sometimes run into rev-limit coming across the traps at the top of 3rd gear. It's worth it to bounce rev-limit once or twice then to take the time to shift to 4th since i'm literally crossing the line as I hit rev-limit. I wouldn't worry about throwing rods unless your boosting your motor or making a lot more power than stock (or you slam 2nd instead of 4th at 90+mph).

For a stock B16 that's perfect 7800 to 8000, now if you add a CTR intake cam or something you may be able to make power a little higher. My friend used JUN 3's in his CRVTEC with Portflow springs instead of getting the JUN valvetrain. That was a bad *** motor till the cam shattered. You could shift a 8800 and still have power beyond that. I've seen those JUN's shatter even with their valvetrain so maybe it would have happened anyway, but my other friends CRVTEC was the exact same as my other friends except it has CTR cams and it still runs 12.8@106 in his EK with no passenger or rear seat. I bet that JUN 3 motor would have easily pulled 12.3's in his EK but oh well. My friend with the CTR cams is goin with Toda B's now and my other friend is rebuilding the same motor except now it has a 86mm bore and 13.0:1 pistons. We'll see what that one will do.

I shift just before I tag the limiter in my B16. If you shift early instead of dropping to, say, 6000, you drop to 5800. Mycar makes 69 kw atw at 5800 and 72 kw atw at 6000. Id rather punch the next gear with 72 kw than 69 kw, wouldn't you????

This is just my theory, so...............

it is called practice.

600+ passes on my Civic
I still shift at 7000-7100 rpm for a REASON!

I can spin motor to 8500, but no power to be gain on MY sohc vtec setup.

You have to try different combos, try at least 3 times for repeatability, and keep notes.
