Question: Dyno results
Ok, this could be alittle OT, since its not really much about drag racing, but id like to know alittle more about dyno.
At our school, we have an ooooold dyno wich has two rollers where you put your drive wheel on to get the hp.
Is this any different from the dynos used in magazines, like dynopack, sakuradyno, etc?
the best anyone has pulled on this dyno is i believe 280something hp, and i know some cars can pull 1khp 12khp, like a built skyline and etc. are these numbers (1000hp skyline, etc) actually from the wheel or would this be from the the trans, hub, etc?
I got in to a discussion with my classmate about hp, and he told me, "even a nascar only puts 600something hp to the wheel while the engine could be putting out 1400hp" or something in that range.... is this true?
sorry if it might be confusing.
thanx

A NASCAR does not put 1400 from the flywheel and not 600 to the wheels. There is no way that it looses 800 hp through the drivetrain. I thought they were in the 800 range. That may only be for the motor....but it still moves the car at 200mph and a low 10 second 1/4 mile.
right, (i guessed that when my friend told me that), and from my research, i came to a conclusion that a two-roller dyno is very inaccurate, and the dynos at the shops now, like dynopack, dynojet is alot more accurate, even at the wheels.
am i correct on this?
am i correct on this?
Two roller dynos, IMO, are pretty accurate. Only reason why they wouldn't be so accurate is when cars w/ ridiculous amount of power is being dynoed. The roller dyno's can't account for the wheels spin where as the ones that you mount it on wheel studs don't have to.

Your school probally has a clayton dyno as did mine. It's used mainly to diagnose drivability problems, For serious power tuning you need a dynojet. I'm not the biggest left hand turn circuit fan, but I believe the make in the 800 hp range and I doubt they lose more than 25% through the drive train.
