Default Quaife / OBX Lsd problem with gsr tranny passenger side axle

Okay so here is the problem.... to begin with i have an S80 GSR tranny...
I had the OBX L.S.D in the car and i would constantly spit axles out and they wouldnt want to go back in....so i did some measuring and etc....came to conclusion that the grooves for the snap ring to snap into place were so far in that the axle would sit flush in but the snap ring on the axle would never reach the grooves.....

I went ahead and meausred the distance on the grooves in the quaife and found out that it is correct.....i purchased the quaife since it was the way to go.....the problem i am having now is that the lip on the housing of the L.S.D is about 1/8 of an inch longer and the axle is bottoming out where the axles stop point is on the lip and the lip on the outer part of the diff...

couple things i tried
putting the axle in the ORIGINAL diff and the axle locks into place
i tried couple different axles...GSR SI etc..

anyone have any ideas as to why i am having this problem?

You'll want to contact "transzex" on http://www.tubobd16.com or on Dseries.org.

He also goes by Masta Bone (sp)

nice photo shop..

alex it seems to me that the pic you drew for the axle looks like a 90-93 axle.

the 90-93 DA axles are long splines. the correct axle you need for the passanger side is half splines and half shaft. the spline are not suppose to go all the way down. bring us the axles and let us take a look at it... thats very fishy

The same thing happened to me with my OBX. I posted here and I was told to just pound it in becuase the clip sometimes has trouble compressing and getting in there. After pounding and puting it back together numerous times I decided something was wrong with the diff. I was so pissed that i started grinding down the axle where it sits on the diff to see if it could go in deeper. It didnt work. I finally contacted the guy I purchased it from and he gave me a new one. No problems at all with this one. I tested it before I installed it and the axle locked. I could pull the axle out easily with my hand on the bad diff. what i am saying is you probably need a new one.

I had a problem with my obx lsd on my d16 tranny. Passenger side will go in but have alot of play and leaks alot of tranny fluid. I took it out so many times and try reinstalling it over and over again. Even try it with my stock tranny I took out. At the end it turns out that the axle oil seal was bad. I'm not sure if this will help but I just thought I share it. No more play and leak.

welllthe obx is long gone....i installed both of them...with the quaife...it wouldnt make a difference where the LSD is sitting..because the axle is not bottoming out on the tranny...its bottoming out on the diff itself....so even if u pulled it out...and try to shove an axle in there from outside it would do the same...

2 different problems with 2 different diffs. same side axle.......anyone got somethin to blow up this car?

What's the measurement from the shoulder to the clip groove? I'll compare that to a the drawing of what the diff is supposed to be (Quaife). Also, take a look into the axle bore of the diff., and see if there is a chamfer at the start of the splines inside the side gear. The Chamfer should have a larger O.D. than the spline to help collapse the snap ring. It is possible that the gear was installed backwards.
