ONE RACE
It has been sad to see our sport flourish and flounder in such a short period of time. A good group of racers have been hard core dedicated to giving this thing a shot from day one and still do. Others like myself have been less dedicated, and for whatever reason cannot give the same attention to a racing addiction. The fact remains that we ALL want to race all the time.
What if we got some of the key people in this industry together that make stuff happen, and had them work together on ONE RACE a year that everyone just busts their asses to show up to? Sort of like how the US Nationals started. You might race all over all season, but the one thing guys never missed was the Nationals. I think SC drag racing was destined for failure from the beginning with 2 major and 3+ minor racing series. Looking back there were races almost every weekend....this sport became "professional" way too fast.
In the grand scheme of things, we have a very small group of racers with like cars...when compared to other forms of racing anyway.
I think Brian Ballard proved that a real first class event can be put together with last year's shootout, but instead of trying to grow and expand on that...other races have popped up trying to do the same thing. What do you guys think about ONE RACE with all the classes to bring everyone together, and then see where this all goes from there?

Luke,
I think you maybe onto something. I think its a good idea just needs some more fine tuning. I remeber in Houston in 2001 they had the Mobil 1 world import challenge. Turbo magazine had a their "Trek to Texas" http://www.importtuner.com/events/im...nge/index.html
This event featured 10 heads up classes. If you could get some major sponsering and lucrative payouts i think ths would attract alot of racers as the import challenge brought racers from Cali and the East coast. Let me know if I can help in anyway

i like the idea of an event to see the who's who of the import world. the world finals, would been awsome to see become a reality. lots of sponsors, big payouts, all classes, and maybe tv coverage. this is jus a pipedream but an event that sets a benchmark for whats to come the next year.
im just a spectator at events since im poor an in school but trying to get an idea of what big event are coming up can get confusing when theres damn near 50 sanctioning bodies

Ever read threads that says its worthless without vid or pics. Well this event no mater how many sponsors with be worthless and crash without Advertising. Gee mentioned the mobil one world import deal. Well I was there like an anxious kid on christmas morning. but I dont think my parents advertised my address to santa. A lack of presents. At lease that was how I felt after seeing the turn out at was was built to be the hype of the sports compact racing world. It was sad. So be sure to get a sponsor that will have means and ways to help with lots of advertising. Flyers don cut that shiii either. Radio and tv.

all motor
hot rod
modified/pro fwd
spfwd
all motor street
besides money what would it take to get everyone from around the country to get in on it?

I remember that race. Thats sounds like a good idea. All these folks with Modified HOT ROD, PFWD and PRWD cars aren't out anymore. One event at the end in Texas or Indy would be nice.
sounds like a good idea, mabye it will bring back sport compact as a SPORT.
i think at the point some of these cars are now, there would be no turning back for them and would scatter the classes like crazy.

The last few events I been to have been stupid.
Who does a quick 8 with no ladder?
Who does a quck 4 shootout with a turnout of 30+ cars in the field?
I get mad anymore when i goto these events. Its like everyone gave up? Even at MIR at import VS domestic. It was all(most) the same people I raced at nopi for the past 4 years. How come there is no one "new"?
Is it us? or people just dont care? are we to mean to the retards on the forum? With how cheap you can build a 11 second car these days i would expect more?

because the street classes have gotten too damn expensive to compete in period.
thats why there arent as many new people getting into the sport as there were back in the day when you could throw something together in your backyard and have a chance at competing in a street class.

thats the problem, we already know who the best of the best is or at least the handful of the best.
most people cant come close to those few, so in return you have no new racers getting into the sport or wanting to travel.
just my .02

Travel is cheap right now. Not like the $5 diesel that was happening when Nopi folded up. Cheap fuel, and you can get $120 hotel rooms for $50.
People with big trailers need to offer to take another car.

The only way to have ONE BIG RACE and attract everyone from all corners would be to put up HUGE payout and host in the middle of the country like World Import Challenge did in Houston back in 2001. Their payout totaled over $100k if I remember correctly. However, no one seems to remember that even with the huge payouts and good location, the event turned out to be a huge failure and lost a lot of money for the promotion company. It didn't work then, it definitely won't work these days. And it wasn't because the event didn't advertised right either. WIC was EVERYWHERE. Even the magazines had multiple page articles just on classes, rules, etc. This post may put a screeching halt to the idea, but just saying. One big race to attract everyone, especially sport racers, is just not realistic. Instead, support your local racing events and the few sanctioning bodies that are still around (BOTI, IFO, IDRC, NSCRA).

I'd like to hear from the Pro Racers. If there was something in the middle of the country for late 2010...would you come? I'll find the money to fund the classes. There is no way I can remember everyone's names so come up with a list of cars that still exist for each class and lets try to get in touch with everyone.

something which would help attract more racers would be large payouts spread down through the field, not just to winner and r/u.
the idea of bounties like the outlaw race also helps alot as well.
the more chance you have of winning something, the more you would be willing to travel to race.

It isn't going to be about a $100,000 payout. This race will be about blowing the dust off these things and hitting this **** one last time with the defibrillator.
