NHRA Rulebook Question
Says here in the NHRA '03 Rulebook "Entire shock/strut tower structure must be retained."
The rear shock/strut tower is incorporated into the wheel wells of the Hondas, so I take it we cannot cut out our rear wheel wells and use aluminium tubs?? Or can we cut everything around the part where the strut bolts up to the strut tower, and just leave that section??

This is for the All Motor class by the way..
" Chassis, FWD:
Wheel Tubs, back halfs, tube chassis, etc, permitted; however, full-tube chassis or back half with non-OEM strut mounts, strut tower tower assemblies incurs weigh penalty."
Im not sure how to interpret this for a Honda, when it comes to the wheel wells.

how could the tubs be intact on a Pro car with a full tube chassis? are they banning cars like padakis's car??
no need to be sorry ek9t,i didnt know what class we were talking about either.......Robb,from the looks of it, you can use tubs(without the penalty) as long as you keep the part of the strut tower where the strut mounts too but id imagine if you cut it up too much or get the wrong tech guy, youll be eating the extra wieght.

I would email Jim Skelly he is NHRA tech director, he can answer your questions, when it seems they might fit in a greay area. I would hate to have a weight penalty, when I was not expecting it, especially in all motor when weight is what counts. His email is JSkelly@nhra.com.Better safe than sorry. Jason
