Default Methanol users quick question.

If you choose not to run an intercooler, are you running additional injectors up stream, or just running like 2 staged 1600cc injectors at the port. I'm not looking form much more than 800 whp or so with my current set up.

Thanks

Tom

On meth you dont really need the intercooler and most run dual rails with 1600cc injectors on the im.

Well, I was asking because I'm putting together my car right now, its a 4g63 and I have 8 1600 injectors on the car already, but I have heard of running more injectors upstream to cool the charge, but dont really have any practical experience from the meth standpoint, I was thinking I could save a pretty good amount of weight by ditching the intercooler.

Thanks

we are running 8 injectors on the intake mani. 4 at the port, then 4 more in the runners. we are making 815 @ ~38 psi (gt42r) non intercooled. in the future we plan on testing out the 2 additional injectors on the charge pipe. mounted perpendicular to the pipe. also, our injectors are not staged. but all at the same time.

Methanol by itself dramatically cools the intake charge, without the addition of more injectors.

Thanks for the replys, I know how the Meth works, air charge cooling and such, I was just wondering what peoples experiences were. Pro or Con on the additional injectors.

How much fuel are you using a pass with just the 8 1600's at that power level?

we still havent gotten a good clean pass out of the car. but id say just about a gallon to gallon and a half, per run on a solid pass/including burnout..

I've seen methanol injected near the compressor outlet before, but it looks like the pro's don't do it? As for intercooler or not, most seem to run some sort of air/water IC. Some exceptions being one of the Neons, AEM Civic, Abel's old RX7...
Evaporated methanol on the turbo outlet might displace more charge air than it can offset from cooling. Ditching the intercooler will give 30-40% less air density in the plenum at race boost levels, but I'm not sure how that will affect cylinder filling. I would think you'd want maximum air density in the plenum, cram as much in the cylinder via maximum boost pressure, and light it up with a detonation resistant fuel.
